I know this has already been addressed at some point so please forgive me for asking again. I was wondering how to secure the ends of the thread after you have embroidered a design. For example-I put my daughter's name on a hair ribbon I was going to make for her. Her name is Sarah. As I was clipping the joining threads between the letters, I managed to unravel half of the "r"...GRRRRRRRRR....I know there has got to be some secret to keeping the threads secure after doing this. So, I have redone the ribbon and not clipped anything until I find out how to do this. thanks in advance.. Julie

I am by no means an expert but I would think a spot of fray check where you snip the thread. I have not had this happen yet but that is what I do when I sew my buttons on by machine. I normally stick a toothpick in the bottle of fray check and what comes out on the tip is enough to hold it but it doesn't show.

sounds like you are clipping the locking stitch. You dont need to cut the bobbin thread. there are locking stitches at the end of each letter if they are digitized correctly. Are you using the built in stitches or a font that you created or a downloaded font?
The more you disaprove, the more fun I am having!

My machine has a locking stitch. If you press the button it automatically LOCKS what you're doing...if you're embroidering and don't have that button, try a couple of small stitches after you're done. Pull the thread to the back and tie it off.

HI, it's built in font on the Singer CE100. I am not sure if there is a locking stitch. Nothing I have read thus far says anything about it. I was cutting from the back of the ribbon when the "r" came apart. The letters were so pretty and with one little clip it literally fell apart in front of me!

the locking stitch would be programed into the lettering. Sounds like you clip to close to the finished stitches. If you dont want the bobbin thread there you can use the fray check before snipping but you still run the chance of it unraveling if you snip to close. The more you disaprove, the more fun I am having!

Hi Swartzm...I did a large basket gift for someone and embroidered on the ribbon for the basket and what I did was cut a thin strip of fusible web more narrow than the ribbon...and then sadwiched the fusion between the embroidered ribbon and the same exact ribbon under the fusion...it finished it off to where no threads were showing...it makes the ribbon just a bit thicker but for the basket it was fine..not sure if this would be too thick for you but it worked out fine for me...I hate when the back of embroidery is showing....I always do weird things different than anyone else LOL.....Ria

Hi --thank you for the good advice. I just was SO aggravated yesterday when the darn letter began to come apart..tomorrow I'm gonna tackle it again trying some of your advice.. Ria--that sounds like a wonderful idea..The one thing I don't like about the hair ribbons IS that the back shows. I was wondering what I could do about that so thank you for the advice! Julie

Ria, Pat yourself on the back.. Thinking outside the box is being encouraged everywhere these days and you are a perfect example of how great that is.. I love your idea.. I had been using the fray check and letting it dry before clipping threads, but I like the disguise idea better.. Thanks.
