She posted to another thread....so I thought I'd ask...

Has anyone else won anything ???

I won a watch when I was about 21 or so in a raffle...and in 96/97 (I can't remember which yr) I won KitchenAid small appliances from a Sears contest.(handmixer, stand mixer, food processer, blender...all white and all matching, all came in the SAME big box. I didn't know I'd won, it just came to the door UPS)(now I own 3 KitchenAid mixers..I already had 1, it's now 23 yrs old and I used it just today to make pizza dough...they last forever...)
(now where is that lottery check...??? )

Kath

almost forgot...won a 4CD set of Eric Clapton at Albert Hall (yum...).

Well, I wo a grill once (pretty cool grill, too--looked like a giant spaceship.) Won some door prizes here and there at events I've been too (can't remember specifically what.) Would love to win the lottery..(but who wouldn't?)

I have.
I won an evening with Eminem, a local rapper, who made it in the big time. It was a contest and my son who listen to this music said go ahead ma call and see if you know the answers. So I did and I knew the answers, got free tickets to the concert and dinner with him. I figured they chose me for the dinner because of my age and I knew the answers, but that was okay. So of course I took my son, and I was very impressed by this young man. I may not really like his kind of music, but the kid has his head on straight.
I also won a Harley sportster for a year. It was all modified by a local group. You had to design an outfit to fit the bike. I did it as a challenge, by my riding friends, was fun having the bike for a year. It was very different and people stopped and stared. At the end of my year with it, they raffled it off along with my outfit for a fundraiser. I was never bold enough to wear this outfit. Was cool.

I won money once -- sort of.
I was on a village committee to help build a park on some property the village owned.
To help raise money we had a 50/50 raffle. I bought a bunch of tickets.
I was working as a reporter and covering the village board meeting when the mayor pulled the winner's name out of the hat.
Mine!!!
What could I do? I donated my half of the money back to the park right then.
I didn't tell my husband about it. Figured it wasn't his business and he would just get annoyed. But the rival paper did a big story about it so he found out. I think it was the only secret I tried to keep from him. Yeah, he was annoyed. We were pretty strapped at the time and could have used the money.
The good thing was that for the next three years we had raffles and the winners donated the money back. So now the village has a very nice park with a playground, basketball court, ice skating rink, picnic area and even a little stage for weekly free concerts in the summer.
But I learned my lesson. Next time instead of your name on the ticket put "Village Park" or whatever if you aren't going to take the winnings. That way you don't have to listen to people tell you it was dumb not to take the money.
That is the only time I ever won anything. Of course I don't try very often. I tell myself that someday I will be inspired to play the lottery for the first time and will win millions. I won't give that back!!

Way back in 81', I won a 5" b/w portable TV. Still have it, but who wants to watch b/w any more? My kids have asked if the set was broken, LOL!

I've also won a few other small items, but not in recent years. My DH has won things the past few years, a portable CD player, a Boom Box, and most recently an IPOD w/speakers. I love the IPOD! He has no clue, and has officially declared it mine! However, my DD loves it too, so we share. :re:

I play scratch offs occasionally and about every other month or so I will win about $100 on a ticket. I will get break even winnings pretty often too, otherwise I wouldn't keep playing. My husband and I have played the lottery a few time but I think we only won like $9 on ONE ticket once! I don't compete in much that will give me winnings so I don't win much. I do work at a convinience store and every year we sell the shamrocks for MDA(doing that right now) and I usually sell enough to get a t-shirt and a coffee mug(I don't drink coffee) this year they are offering an I-Pod shuffle to anyone who sells 600 or more shamrocks. I'm almost at 300 and we don't end the promo till March 29th. I'm really hoping to get that. I have an MP3 player that I really like, but my husband still only has a cd player in his car, so he'll take one and I'll have one. He get's the coffee mug too, and my boss will probably order extra t-shirts. I got 2 last year, one for me and one for him. This is my 3rd year selling and I have always sold the most by a long shot. It makes me mad that no one else really even tries. And customers always wonder what's in it for me. I tell them that there are prizes but that I would still ask people to buy the shamrocks even if their weren't. Some don't believe me. We have all kinds of contests at that store. Which store can sell the most candy bars, lottery tickets and what not. I don't usually push those. Of course, part of that is because one time our store did get top seller in something and the manager got a paid trip to Six Flags, while the rest of us got zip. Made me kinda mad. But then there is also the people I ask if they want a candy bar and they reply "I'm diabetic". Then I feel bad. I guess I need to stop typing now as it appears I'm rambling. Kids will be home soon then I have to get to work.

Back in 1980 on a Saturday I stopped at a McDonalds on my way home to visit my mother & father. I dropped a ticket into a box and before I got back to Ottawa on the Monday, I had a phone call from them saying I'd won a watch. So I got a boy's Ronald MacDonald watch in the mail. I still have it and it's never been worn. Maybe it will be worth something someday! (hee hee).

I won a typewriter when I was 13 (and we won't say how long ago that was - especially considering it was before computers! LOL) for sending in a question to a column in the local paper asking for information on becoming a nurse. Guess it was the right question, I won the typewriter and became a nurse! LOL

Reading these posts just brought back a very old memory. When I was 5 or 6 and my youngest sister was 2 or 3, my mom entered us and our older sister in a drawing at a department store for this HUGE stuffed blue Easter rabbit and a basket of goodies. My little sister won. We went to get her prize and it took my mom and older sister to get the rabbit to the car. It was taller than my mother. I remember riding home with the rabbit leaning back in the back seat between my sister and me.
She tried to drag it around the house and climbed on it all the time. I don't remember how long we kept it but I remember little styrofoam balls leaking out of it til mother threw it out. :nervous:

I'll have to remember to ask my sister if she remembers that.

I won $3.00 on the Power Ball Lottery just last week!!!
I don't know if you would calling it winning or just plain ol' luck, I won $51.50 playing the 25 cents slots (put 50 cents in the first slot I sat at and hit on the first try!!!) three weeks ago and when we went to Vegas in December I won just over $400.00 on the slots, mostly 5 cent slots and 25 cent slots. At Mandalay Bay I put $1.00 in a 25 cent slot and played a single coin, nothing, then played 50 cents and hit $250.00 plus. I learned the hard way ( in the Bahamas) that when you see you are rolling more than 100 points that you cash out and leave the machine, it will not pay out again anytime soon.
Dh and I will each limit the amount of money we play (usually $20.00 to $50.00, depends on where we are) and we both are very good at sticking to it.
Dh has also learned that if he sees me sitting at a machine for a period of time to stay away, I'm on a roll!!!!!! He is what they call a "Whale" to me in Casinos- they kill your winning streak the minute they come anywhere near you!!!! :bang: He has done that to me a few times, now he knows better.

Oh yeah, when I was in the Bahamas years ago I had never played a slot machine before, I sat down and played 25 cents on this one machine, kept winning and winning- BUT stupid me I didn't know enough then to take the pay-out which was around $1,250.00 then, DAHHHHH. Well anyways I kept playing the same money over and over and over to the point that I was down to my last 50 cents, I pulled the lever to play the 50 cents and blew a fuse in the machine!!!!!!!!! I got my 50 cents back, and now I know when to take a payout.
I find now that I get bored with Casinos after the first hour of being in them and am ready to move on to do something else that doesn't involve saying goodbye to my money.

Back in April 2002, we went to the NYS Volunteer Firemans State Bowling Tournament in Albany NY. They were raffling off a special collectors edition of a patriotic bowling ball (this was 7 months after 9/11). Well, my SO tried to win one but didn't...guess who wond the first raffle on that Sunday Morning? Uh Huh, little ole me....and I gave it to him as a gift because it was too heavy of a ball for me to use!

I won £30 in a pub quiz! And we won the quiz a couple of times too - you see all my obscure facts come in use!
I won a competition here on SWN once and got some lovely books from Mary - we had to sew something with lace and the entry was pretty small -
OH! and I cam 3rd in the Rag Drag King competion. I guess thisi means I don't dress up in Drag as a man very wel - there were only 3 entries then as well. Still, nice bottle of wine....

I have never won anything in my whole life.....So when I buy a ticket I walk away and say. It's for a good cause, and the luck person to win probably needed it more than I did.
