Hi every one. I am interested in all types of sewing, but right now I am embroidering tea towels. For Christmas in Dec,I made 8 sets of 7 towels each, and I thought I would not want to do more, but here I am working on another set.I am so happy to find this site to talk to other sewers, hope there are more that like to do hand embroidery as I am not too good at other stuff. I am 69,retired and no pets, tho I do love them. Thanks for listening,Bernice |

I used to do hand embroidery. (arthritis has taken that away from me) I have LOTS of thread though and I was wanting to give it away...It's all DMC on thread holders or not even used. I must have 100 skeins or so. Would YOU like it....for FREE...I DO NOT WANT anything for it. I WILL send it to you. Miss Mary, Carman, Magot, Selene, or Brenda (Chestnut) can vouch for me. Kath just leave me e-mail... Chrys

Chrys, If she doesn't want the thread, I do. I do hand embroidery, and lots of it. I also have arthritis in my hands, and I would love to get mote done before I can't anymore. I do a lot of crewel work, and mostly kits, but I also sometimes trace something to embroider.

I have done quite a lot of hand embroidery. I like it. I draw my own designs or if I see something I especially like, I may draw it or a part of it to use. I drew a dragon recently, based on a magazine picture, to use in freemotion sewing machine embroidery, but I may do it in hand embroidery as well. Most designs are of multiple use. I've adapted some of my designs to cross-stitch for a friend who loves that. Also children's coloring books have usable designs. Some of my designs I have used for applique`, too. In fact, just about every design in my book, Techniques of Freemotion Machine Embroidery, is usable for hand embroidery or applique, too ! MariLynntex |

MariLynn, maybe you can help me...I mostly do machine embroidery...my sister is looking for a kit (not cross stitch) to make a baby blanket for a neice who is expecting in the fall...the only one that she could find was one from the UK for $150.00...do you have any suggestions that I could send to her...Thanks, Paula |

I know a lot of people don't care for Wal-Mart but I have seen some kits there. What about some fabric shops ? Oh, Hershners carry them. It's a catalog sewing . Should be on the internet also. |

I sent you a private message with my address. You don't know how much this means to me. With Gary gone, and not paying yet, I have to watch literally every penny. I can deal with doing without lots of things, but not my needlework. Thanks, hon. A happy person is not a person in a certain set of circumstances, but rather with a certain set of attitudes. I used to do a lot of hand embroidery. The only reason I don't now is simply because I started other hobbies like basketmaking and quilting. Once in a while I pick up some cross-stitch and I like to do hand quilting, which is a little like hand embroidery. I got my mother into cross-stitch a while back when she was complaining that she needed something different to do because she was getting tired of crocheting. She gets bored after a while, so after doing some pillows and things, she got really ambitious. She started doing large cross-stitch versions of photos of the grandchildren. She ordered kits so she could get large graphs of their photos and she's made 16x20 cross-stitch "pictures" of them. She started doing just photos she liked, but when DD graduated from high school, she did one of her. Now she's working on #5 grandchild's senior photo and has only #6 to go. She's only going into her junior year next year, so she has time. When she started to get bored with that, she asked me to teach her to quilt, so she does that now too. So far, she's a better cross-stitcher than quilter, but she's been at it longer, too. |

I do a bit of crewel, it takes me forever to finish them but I do enjoy it.

I also enjoy embroidery, even hand mending. It seems to be so intimate. I don't do much any more but every now and then wish I had a 'project' -especially for travelling and watching TV. I have a wall clock and an everlasting calendar that I made years ago - call them curriculum one and curriculum two as I did them for stress relief during periods of big educational change. Everyone who comes into my house comments on them, tho I admit the calendar is not my best work. I bought each as a kit from a catalogue produced yearly by Better Homes and Garden. I still have the catalogue and a number of other finished 'projects' but have not found any other sources that were as creative as those were. Today most seem to be seasonal projects, cutsies, or animals. I really don't know what I want to make. I like the look of the table cloths, but I never use table cloths unless very formal and then I have heavy linen and a great acrylic that you throw in the washer and dryer. And I have more placemats than I will ever use or give away. Too bad we don't use 'hankies' any more - my old ones are in my embellishment supplies. If anyone knows of a good source of kits I would like to know of them. Like Mary, I take a long time with these things and I don't want to fuss with making my own and trying to find all the threads - but I would like to complete something before I die. Counted cross stitch seems to have taken over hand embroidery and I know my eyes would never be able to read the few I have seen that I like and it is too much like petit point which my MIL says I could never see. I even have an uncompleted petit point purse that she started for me years ago that I need someone to complete the background on. *~*~*~* Nancy*~*~*~* " I try to take one day at a time - but sometimes several days attack me at once."

I think Mary Maxim and Herrshner's (sp?) both have kits that you might like. The last time I looked, they had a lot of different types of embroidery kits. Silly me, I was just about to post this when I realized that sitting in front of the computer is a new catalog I received last week. It's a new one from Keepsake Needlearts. I'm used the one I get from Keepsake Quilting, but this one is only for handwork. The website is www.keepsakeneedlearts.com I just got that from the back of the catalog. I was going to give it to my mother in case she wanted something from it. I prefer quilting and have plenty of projects ahead of me. Just a thought, Sancin, have you ever thought of doing a small whole cloth quilt? You would be handquilting, but it's a lot like hand embroidery. You could take it with you if the project was small and it could be framed or put into a pillow top. Just a thought. |

Laurie, I don't know how I missed your message so apologies for not responding sooner. Thank you for the information of sources. I will look them up. I have thought about a whole quilt but for some reason the thought overwhelms me. Maybe.......
