I need to make our 2 yr. old foster girl some new things - we gave almost all of her clothes to her grandmother when she was going to be getting custody of her. Well, that didn't happen. And grandmother has most of her clothes. I would like some ideas on some super fast & easy tops and/or dresses. I have a lot of wovens but can't think beyond a peasant style. I do have the 3/04, 1/05, 2/05, and 3/05 Ottobre - haven't made her anything from those yet - what's quick in there? Or what other patterns have some quick woven tops? She is a size 2T right now - will probably make some 2T and some 3T since she seems to be growing so quick. I do have some cute knits still, but would really like some ideas for wovens. PLEASE!! It is still chilly here in Minnesota, so sundress type are not apprpriate here yet. |

Check out the Kwik Sew book for toddlers. Lots of patterns you can trace off, and the book last along time. They are easy to sew and fast. |

I do have that book. The only problem that I find is that alot of the things seem quite "wide". This little one is actually a taller & thinner build. |

My grandmother used to make me tops, out of bandanas...two bandanas, same color (or if you like different colors, thats Ok too). Turn to what you believe is the wrong side. Make arm holes and a neck hole, big enough for BOTH to go through, sew...turn right side out....they have LOTS of colors these days....(I only got red and blue...thats all they had). You can get them in Michaels. (I don't know of any other places...). They're cute, easy, cotton and will go with just about anything. Is she's small enough...get 4 bandanas and make a pair of shorts or a skirt. (or 6 bandanas...make a flaired skirt).

When my daughter was a toddler, I made her alot of t-shirt dresses. Just add a gathered skirt to the bottom of a purchased t-shirt or tank. Sometimes I added an applique or a pocket to the front and trims to the skirt. You said it's still chilly there, so you could do the same with a sweatshirt. I also liked buying patterns for her that had a variety of options, like different sleeves, collars, etc. Then I got to make alot of different outfits using the same pattern. |

That is why I suggested the kwik sew book as it is so easy to trace off and adjust the pattern to the size you want. I used this book for my GS as he was tall and skinny so would use the width for size 1 and a different lenght. |

bnylund, If you have a choice of a pattern that says size 2 or size 2 T, take the size 2.. Toddler sizes are shorter and wider that regular sizes.. (specially in anything that covers a bottom.. , dresses included) I think this is allowing room for diapers,etc.. Childrens size 2 is a better fit for a regular 2 year old.. They usually have lost most of their baby fat (tummy) by then.. Sew With Love

If you find some turtle necks her size you can just add a longer skirt to them with a colour coordianting flannel or cotton (cottons just not as warm) Works great with my daughter she loves dora so I buy the dora fleece and sew it right on the turtle neck!! Stephi Stephi
