 Part of my stash and I got busted again today. I've had this big clear plastic tub of fabric sitting in front of the treadmill in our bedroom for several months now that I ran out of room to store in my sewing room. Up until today, I've just been coming in and throwing my new purchases on top of the tub of fabric. Well, yesterday DH was browsing Dollar General for storage ideas for my sewing room and happened upon the plastic crates. He bought 4 and informed me when I came home from church this afternoon, via Hancock Fabrics, had to stopp and pick up some white twill for an Easter costume for Pontius Pilate don't you know, that we were going to Dollar General to pick up enough of the plastic storage crates for me clean up the stack sitting in the bedroom. He told me to pick up 4 for me to us and pick up 4 more for him to use in the garage. Ha! Ha! Ha! I bought 8 and used all of them leaving him with the original 2 that he bought yesterday. He thought I was going to get everything out of the bin in the bedroom plus what is in my closet in my sewing room in the 4 that I bought for the sewing room. He said "you mean you what's in those crates is only what was in that plastic containe?" I smiled brightly and replied, "you got it!" He went on to ask me if I though I would ever sew all of that fabric and I replied, "of course not but I've got it if I do happen to want so sew some of it." He just walked away shaking his head. Boy is he in for a big shock when I do finally start unloading the closet. I'll have so many of those plastic crates he'll have to build another room for all of them. Poor man, hope he doesn't have a weak heart.

Mine doesn't even bother to look anymore....I don't comment about all his boxes of pictures and he doesn't comment about my boxes of fabric....

Yep. I'd have major fights with my husband if I had that much. As it is, I've got a dozen pieces of fabric (I only started sewing here last September when I got my machine), and I need to sew at least half of them before I go buy more. Well, not what he said, but I need to limit myself. I can get really out of hand, too......

I figure the fabric in my sewing room isn't used yet and the books on my shelves are not read yet so I'm doing a lot better than my husband who has a room full of stacks of old books he's read and sheets of paper that are used -- paid bills and the like. I have a stash, he has a mess so we both keep quiet about the other.

my fabric. I have 20 gallon walmart containers all lined up one wall of their house and all that is fabric and remnants of fabric and things I see that would make a cool costume for the kids. I have beads, and buttons, and tins of thread. Bags and bags of yarn, my grandma died four years ago and left me all her knitting stuff, I also have containers of scrapbook stuff. My husband is great about it, I dont complain about how many video games he has and he doesnt ever say that I have too much sewing, or crafts stuff. We have an understanding, I stay at home and have told him that I need this stuff to stay sane and he says taht he doesnt drink or smoke so the only thing he is addicted to is the computer. I think that this works for us. Good luck when you show him everything that you have collected over the years.

I have had a stash in my house for years and some lots got sewn for specific occassions. There has been plenty around for the past few years as I was doing my masters' degree. Hubby ignored it until I started going through it and then he made a few ribald comments. What he didn't know didn't hurt him until I was sorting and he walked in. I did cut my pile down by half by giving all my black fabric to the Hutterites for jackets and a big piece of taupe to the girls for blouses. I then went through and gave a box and a bag to the thrift shop which they really appreciated. What is left is what I want for a wardrobe capsule and a few things for western wear. I even went through my patterns and got them into 2 boxes with a few large ones that need to be stored in something. I even did my quilting cottons and put them into boxes. My quilting patterns are in binders in boxes also. Amazing what you can do when you think you might be moving.

So many years, so many patterns and projects not started....I've got a huge stash too (embarrassing). Plus when people die, they leave me thier stashes. Patsy, if he ever throws you out for that you can just come and move in. After 33 years my husband is rather numb to it.

PS I may see you at the tea this year. My DH will be there if my DD doesn't go, I'll need to.

Nah!!! He'll never throw me out. He's invested too much money in machines now. Besides, despite his act of being overwhelmed and shocked at my "purchases" he contributes to my addiction by asking if I need more thread, a new machine, if I want to go through Paducah and stop at Hancock's of Paucah when we're in that area, etc., so he really can't complain. Besides, he just bought another guitar to add to his collection. I think the thing is he just can't imagine why anyone would buy that much fabric unless you have a plan to sew it. I do have plans, it's just that they stay in my head. LOL

Pam, that will be super great if you come to the tea! In fact, I'm doing at least 2 tables this year, unless another family emergency arises again this year, so you can be one of my guests. That is just so strange that you mention that this morning, because I had intended to call one of the ladies today to ask if your dh was doing our photography again this year. Great minds, heh?

Lynn called him last week. He is very excited. He and my dd really enjoyed themselves last year! I hope that she will go because she takes great candid shots and she is as cute as a button.

I don't take many shots because I tend to move the camera down with the button...I play button keep away. If I go I'll just take care of the equipment and laptops. I think that he is going to take the DVD from last year with him and let it loop. He usually downloads his shots every so often as he takes them so you can see them (unedited) if you want while you are there. Leah is in "Little Shop of Horrors" that evening (it will be the third performance) but I'm hoping since it will be almost over she'll be able to go with him. As it gets closer, we'll know which one of us is going with him.

Thank you so much for the gracious invitation. I don't want to fill your tables and maybe only one of us show up. One of us will definately be there. You can plan on that. Thank you again! Leah just had a blast last year she said the speaker was wonderful! So if she can get it in her schedule, I'd love to send her.

I have been wanting to do some serious fabric shopping, but due to the fact that my DD is needing my assistance with her current situation, I've totally restrained myself from going to Joann's or Hancocks. I'm about to go into withdrawls :bluesad: but family comes first. Even though I do still have a bit of room left in my "everyday" fabric plastic tote, I think a bit of sewing first will smooth out any ruffled feathers that the man of my house might have! Diplomacy first, then more fabric!!! :bg:

That's a great way to get to buy more fabric!!!

Pam, the idea id to fill as many tables as we possibly can. LOL There is always plenty of room so if you want to come be my guest, I'd love to have you and your daughter, also or any other ladies you might want to bring. We always have a great speaker, good food and the tables are always gorgeous.

On my own this weekend, I promised hubby that I would move all of my boxes of fabric to an appropriate area (rather than lining the walls of our bedroom) if he would help in finishing our bedroom this summer. I am really looking forward to it and since I have my fabric in marked boxes and a fabric index/notebook, I think I can, I think I can... The sad thing is that I sew really nice clothes and I still have just a piece of fabric pinned up for a curtain in the bedroom. I go on fabric diets, then gorge when I can't stand it any longer. I've got to get a grip. I sure am glad to know I'm not weird and alone, though. Thanks girls!

Hi everyone. My laundry room is wall to wall pink and purple 10 gallon storage containers. I do have them organized...up to 1 yd, 1-2 yds, etc etc...or I would never find anything. Hubby is really good about it. Every once in awhile, like when I get new fabric in the mail, he will ask if I am ever going to use it. Now that I have finished my first quilting class, and have become addicted to it, I am honestly answer him yes. LOL I don't work due to nerve damage in my back and MS so sewing and quilting are my way of staying sane. And in order to do those things, you have to have fabric right???? Sounds logical to me.

Have a good night all and happy sewing!
If I had known that grandchildren were so much fun, I would have had them first!!

I was doing really good about hiding mine from him until katrina came along and he rented a U-Haul truck, the biggest they make and my sewing room stash took up half of the truck packed to the ceiling of the truck. Now I'm paying storage on two 10 X 12 storage rooms @ 105.00 a month a peice for my stash. He told me the other day, If you get rid of your stash with the money we save on storage cost you can go on a shopping trip and buy all new fabric. I DON"T THINK SO!!!!!!!!!! He put the shelves up in my sewing room that cost us about 400.00 and the stash is still in storage. We are both too busy and too lazy to go pack it in my truck and bring it home.
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

I am trying so hard to not buy any more fabric until I get through some of my stash, but as soon as I get one project done, I seem to find myself at the store just looking, and coming out with more fabric. What scares me is I am going with my sister to the Sewing and Craft Show in Abbotsford on the weekend, and I know what those are like, they have fabric, buttons, beads, fat quarters, patterns, machines, classes, oh my. We are booked in for 4 classes, 2 each day and we figure we should be there at least 6 hours a day. I haven't had the heart to tell DH our plans, but he at least knows that we are going. He laughs when he comes into the sewing room, as I have stuff from one end to the other, and I have my seeds growing in one corner by the window for the garden!

Alone...are YOU JOKING ??? I have...and my husband hates this...a STACK of prequilted cotton, beige, white and purple, over 5' tall. (washed and ready to be used). For my 'charity' quilts. (I keep using my JoAnn's 40% off coupons and getting 10 yrds of prequilted stuff for $30....or LESS...) He thinks I'm out of my mind and just collecting to be collecting...ahhh no...I have a plan. I just don't tell HIM that...
I make quilts for Soldiers and Project Linus. I use all my 'good' stuff and make great tops and use the prequilts on the back (with extra batting in between) to make things go faster...( like getting all those quilting designs on CD's and using my new 8x8 and 9x11 hoops....)
He just thinks I'm hoarding things....and addicted to fabric...(well yes I'm addicted to fabric, but I'm hoarding for a reason...) It'll be gone soon....Next week when he leaves for Dallas...I'm finishing up some UFO's...and he's gonna be surprised...one is his new bedspread. :bg: ::hee hee::

(I don't let him see my beads...coins, tassels or anything 'special' and he has NO idea how much thread I actually have....it's inside my sewing cabinet....) :re:

You are not alone. I have tons of fabric! I can't understand why when it comes to making something I never have exactly what I NEED!

Patsy, we would love to be your guests. As soon as I know if we are both coming, I'll let you know. Leah had such a wonderful time last year! She got her first job today so with hs graduation around the corner, things are starting to get interesting.

The bottom line is ladies that we are helping to keep the economy strong and people employed with our fabric/notions/machine purchasing. I don't really worry a lot about what my dh says about my fabric stash because the fact is the next time I'm in a fabric store and see a piece of fabric that I can't live without, I'll buy it. I don't even try to put myself on a fabric diet. It's a waste of my energy. And you're right Bridesmom, when we decide to start a new project no matter how much fabric we have, we never seem to have just the right piece or the right amount.

Super Pam, I'll put you and Leah on my guest list.

My hubby was ok with it until he realized I also had those plastic drawers in the hall closet and two in our bedroom closet!! Ooops should have put it in the attic, LOL!!!
