That's a great story Mary & so true. Even a young person has to have friends & to look forward to doing things they enjoy. We all need reasons to get out of bed each day & the mind needs to stay active.Being alone or lonely is asking for bad health & an early decline. I wish more nursing homes & such had more things for the people to do instead of just sitting around.I know that some could teach us a lot of stuff we'd love to learn also. |

After my father-in-law died my mother-in-law became a totally different person. She was always the stronger one in that (or any) relationship but suddenly she became very dependent. I really think it was because she had nothing to do. Her whole life she never did any kind of sewing or craft or even read. The closest she came to a hobby was shopping. And she was good at that. She really looked down on "homemade" items. I know it was because she grew up poor but it left her with nothing when she no longer had her favorite pastime -- complaining to and about her husband. I know that if she had some kind of creative pastime her last couple years would have been happier and easier and perhaps she would have lived longer. Dorothy |
