Well I went and was in Heaven the whole time I was there!!!! Mind you the drive up to Cleveland (the South side of the Airport) was a shorter drive (30 mins.) then what the line to get into the parking lot was!!!!! This building ,the old tank plant where they used to build tanks during the Wars. is big enough to have several different shows going at once and still not use 2/3rds of the building!! They had the Sportsman Show and the Autoroma Show there today along with the Sewing Expo. Maryann Fons was the guest speaker on Opening Day so they had roughly 20-30 of Fons & Porters Quilts hanging on display. Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful work!!!!! You could just stand there and look at the detail in the selections of fabrics and the top stitching done on them. I would say the majority where machine finished, but those that where done by hand have very nice even flowing stitches. All the area sewing machine carriers where there with the newest in their lines of machines. People where trying them and walking out the door with new machines. Women smiling and their husbands walking behind them crying and carrying the latest credit card ding!!!! Some of the booths where so crowded, and these where good size booths, that you couldn't even get in them!!!!!! Vogue Fabric is always there from Chicago, this years fabric that was a big hit was the Liz Claiborne lines. There was also a Gentlemen from either NY or NJ there with Wool/Linen blends that I just fell in love with!!! Sorry to day the "Reduced Prices" where still to high for my wallet. Lots of Quilting booths and lots of fabric for quilts, I found two very cute pieces. One is of crazy cats and the other is a Sewing Themed piece. They had a BIG side room with quilts on display from the Area Quilting Guilds. You where asked to vote for your favorite one by ballot. They ranged from VERY UNUSUAL to very traditional. It was fun to see just how people used fabrics and colors together. They added Knitting and Yarns this year. It was small for the first year, at least for me to see it there, and seemed to be a very big hit with everyone. They even had a spot that you could sit down take yarn and needles out of the baskets that they had on the tables and knit up a 12"x12" block (to be sewn into blankets for their donation box). There where many of the smaller displays that come every year and from the looks of things every one of the dealers there has had a VERY GOOD THREE DAYS. I got lots of ideas for things to try so I off to my room now........... |
