I was at Fabricland (my fav store!)the other day and i saw some cutwork vinyl like fake leather at only $5 bucks a meter and i was sorely tempted to get some but i've never worked with it before ,i'm guessing you would need a larger stitch count on the machine to make sure it doesn't split but are there other tips?? |

I have worked with different thickness and types of pleather, and have found great success with a teflon foot. You can find them both online and at sewing machine dealerships. It made sewing with this fabric a breeze. Also I would advise you to use paperclips instead of pins when sewing, because the pin holes are usually noticeable. HTH! Jen |

I used a roller foot when sewing on plastic. I have a teflon foot as well, but depending on the thickness of the material, I found the roller foot to work best. I can't recall where I got the roller foot, but is one of those ones that will fit most machines.

Hi MJADAA. Welcome to SWN. I see from the info you wrote in the Lurker Challenge that you are from Ottawa. I'm in the area too. Since Fabricland is your favourite store...we may have encountered each other there! I'm a quilter more than a sewer...so have spent a lot of time and $ at the local Fabriclands and quilt shops around the area. Hope you enjoy the site! TTFN from

Welcome!! I've sewn with vinyl before and wanted to mention that it is very unforgiving if you poke holes in it, either with pins to hold it together, or stitching in the wrong place. So make sure you are sewing where you want your seams to be and not having to rip it out, or you will have little holes tattling on you!
