Just spent the weekend at the Vancouver Sewing and Crafts show with my sister. We had the best time (don't ask how much I spent - but at least it was less than her, she was over $600) We took 4 classes,
Perfecting Pockets by Ron Collins from Saskatoon - he was GREAT! also gave a jeans workshop that I will definitely attend next year!! (He's been on Linda MacPhee's shows, showcased in Timmel Fabrics, has a book coming out that I will definitely get - do I sound like a fan??
Pants Fitting by Kathleen Cheetham,http://www.petitepluspatterns.com/
Zippers by Trudy Jansenhttp://www.trudyjansendesign.com/ Heirloom Techniques by Debra Justicehttp://www.laboursoflove.com/ - make sure you spell labour with the 'u' or you will be in for a heck of a surprise!!!

The classes were excellent, I can't say which was best. I learned so much I was amazed!! I bought $55 worth of button!!!! It was just great. I can't wait to get into the sewing room and start trying some of the things I learned. And the machines !!!! How do you ever decide what one you want!!! We test drove a number of machines, just for the fun of it and fell in love with a quilting set up that my sister is going to get in May so we can both use it (just love my sister!!!!) It was just the best weekend ever. Now, if I could just find some time to sew!!!

Just a quick note about Kathleen's class. MaryW had mentioned her and Kathleen has some fitting tips on this website. Now honestly, when I found out she was doing Petite Plus (as she said, patterns for short round women - like herself) I was thinking, well, what could she do for me who is tall and slender. I was SO wrong. She was excellent with fittiing tips for pants, and I am definitely going to check out her tips on her website. Just goes to show you - you can't judge a book by the cover!! Her tips were so useful and she was so fun!

Now I'm really jealous! Instead of going, I spent the entire weekend installing flooring in my new sewing room. I was getting so frustrated I almost packed it all up and brought it back to the flooring shop this morning but took a little break, got my neighbour and hubby to help and we got it done (we have the nicest neighbours in the world I think). It really looks nice - antique pine plank laminate. It probably wouldn't have been so hard if I weren't almost 6 months pregnant. My body is aching all over. The electrician will be back again one day this week and hopefully finish the new wiring.... then I can get set up to sew again. Everything takes so long.
Glad you had so much fun!

Hi Laura,

Read your post! How wonderful. I love the larger quilt exhibit shows that come here to Houston. I have gone for several years now to the Houston Quilt Show when it comes every end of October. I love seeing all of the exhibits and watching the free seminars, etc. If I didn't have to work :pc:
I would be there every day that they were in town to take the classes, etc. Maybe this year I can dedicate some vacation time towards that. Sounds like you had a wonerful time. Awesome!

Laura, I know what you mean about Kathleen knowing about pant fitting. I took her pants fitting session a year ago at the Inspirations Needlecraft show here in Ottawa. I went because I can never find RTW pants that fit...she had me just stand on a chair and told me that her patterns weren't made for me but then proceeded to tell me exactly what was the adjustment that I needed to make to pants patterns to fit for me. Unfortunately...I have yet to test them out as another quilting project or UFO keeps getting in my way  Maybe I'll give it a try this year making some summer pants. :monkey:
