Hi All,

Well, wouldn't you know it. I went to Jo-Ann's the other day and was doing some thread shopping. I happened to pick up some beautiful varigated spools of Cotton thread, not realizing they were the hand quilting threads. :bang:

I want to do some decorative topstiching on some special projects. Well, I've tried to use these thicker threads in my machine before, but with not too much success. They ususally made a cute little birds nest effect on the underside of the fabric and sometimes on top. I hate to bring all (3) spools back, because I've already fallen in love with the colors. Does anyone have some tried, tested results for stiching with these thicker threads as the topstich? Suggestions for settings and or bobbin thread type, needle size, or combination of all, etc? I appreciate your help!

I was told once not to use hand quilting thread in the sewing machine as it has a coating on it especially for hand sewing....and it could gum up your tension disks. Don't know if this it true or not...but I have stayed away from using it in my machine. Maybe someone else will be able to confirm or refute what I was told.

Judy is right. The hand quilting thread is coating to prevent tangling and snagging. Machine quilting thread is not. With that information I would be hesitant to use it in my machine.

A nuther Judy

One more and we have Judy, Judy, Judy.

Sorry...

I couldn't resist.

Judy...just so you know, there is another one around the board...I would bet we're all around the same age as when I was going through school there were always other Judy's in my classes. I don't think anyone gets this name any more :bg:

It's like all the Kathy's, Cathy's, Cathie's, Kathie's, etc...from the 50's.
I was always in a class with 2-4 more...but since I was Kathy A...I got the first or second seat...(depending on the FIRST A in the class...) :re:

Yeah...I made the mistake of buying hand quilting thread when I first bought my embroidery machines...I don't do that anymore...

Judy, that makes you almost old. :whacky:

or is that forever young?

You are right...I've not heard of a wee one being named Judy in a very long time.

I was the only Theresa in all of the school I went to. When my children was in school it was a real common name. I was named after both my Grandmothers. Her name was spelled & pronounced different though. She was French & it was spelled Terese`. Mine is pronounced Teressa & Gramdmas was pronounced treesee. In our school there were so many Marys. Now I'm telling my age. LOL.
