41% barely Yankeedom...trouble is, when you live all over the U.S. you pick things up that the locals say...so is my score true or not ??? (since I was brought up in NM and CA I consider myself a westerner..one of those 'accentless' ones. ) It would be intersting to hear what we all sound like. I like voices...I can usually tell where someone's from by their accent. I also like to 'see' what people sound like, if their voices match their looks. (I don't look like I sound and people are often shocked when I talk....my mother-in-law says I have the most perfect telephone/television voice. )(and thats funny..I lisped as a kid and forced myself to stop. They made my sister take speach therapy in school to lose hers, it was a disability when she was in school, then gave it back to her in Spanish class in HS...OT...but I was on a roll...meds for my back are talking I guess... ) Chrys

And the result was? 47% Dixie, barely in Yankeedom Very odd since I was born and bred in NORTHERN Indiana and Ohio and all of my ancestors immigrated through PA except for a Russian grandmother who arrived in Indiana at the age of 5 through North Dakota! I don't think I have spent a total of a 3 months in the south even though I have children living there now! So, I guess I have to wonder about those test results? Sharon |

54% Dixie. Barely in Dixie. Give me a few more years here in Texas and I am sure I'll convert the rest of the way. Can't figure out how I turned dixie as I was born and raised in the Midwest. Spent my adult life in Florida, Germany and now Texas. I guess what pushed me over is knowing what a beverage barn is. Don't think I had ever seen such a thing as a drive-thru liquor store until we moved here.

53% Dixie. Barely in Dixie Sounds about right, I was born in Japan, lived in Maryland, Mass., Ohio, Florida, New York, and Texas(most often). My dad is a Yankee and my mother is a Texan. I have lost my accent for the most part, depending on who I'm talking to. If I'm talking to someone that has a heavy southern accent, mine kicks in, same for someone with a northern accent. As for my voice, I sound like a little kid over the phone or on recordings, I don't think I sound like that in person, but who knows. The question about what the bubbly drink is called reminded me of something I expierienced as a kid. I went to Mass. to visit my grandparents(I was living in TX at the time) and we went somewhere to eat. The guy asked me what I wanted to drink and I replied coke. He then walked off and I turned to my mother upset and told her "He didn't ask me what kind of coke, he just walked off" I think it was around then that I started referring to it as soda. Charity |

Well, the test said I was 72% southern. Guess I lost the other 28% when I lived in some other states & Germany. LOL. Really most likely because I was teased about how I said some things. When I get tired I revert back & also when we go back to Mo to visit. I don't notice it but our kids sure do & they have a great time teasing me. |

Charity He walked off and brougt you a Coca Cola, right? Many Bostonians refer to the carbonated drinks as tonic, rest of the state, soda. But if you want a Coke or Pepsi you state it as Coke or Pepsi. Orange tonic would not be a specific brand. When I was working at a soda fountain in Boston a young woman came in and ordered a chocolate milk shake. When I served it to her she complained that it hadn't been made with ice cream. That is because a frappe (here) is made with ice cream, not a milkshade which is just flavoring and milk. |

Hi, I scored 90 % Dixie. I was pretty surprised since I was born and raised in ALABAMA and now live in southern Ga! What's up with the other 10 %???? I guess maybe it comes from having a Yankee/midwestern husband who does call any carbonated drink "soda" hence I do. I have REALLLLY tried to clean up my Southern dialect just a bit although some things never change!! I will, officially, attribute the other 10 % to my husband and now being around a military base which is basically a big melting pot.

hhmmmm...I worked 2 different places with soda fountains.... Frappes were in a tall glass and layered ice cream, or sherbet, with syrups/sauces... Milk shakes, milk and ice cream. Malted, milk, ice cream and malt powder. Coke is Coke..but you could have had cherry, vanilla or chocolate. Suicide was all carbonated drinks mixed in once glass. (yuck) Black Cow was vanilla ice cream and root beer. Chocolate black cow was chocolate ice cream and root beer. Egg creams were a little bit of milk, some chocolate syrup added, stir and add soda water. (I worked at both a Woolworths lunch counter...boy does that make me feel old and a HoJo's (Howard Johnsons for those who aren't familiar.) Chrys

Chrys, I worked in a soda fountain that was in a drug store ( private owned ) when I was 14 & 15. Boy, that was a milloin years ago. You sure have to be older to remember soda fountains in a drug store. Those were the days though. Sure got some good stuff at those fountains. Another great hang out was the one in a Rexall drug store or one of the teen towns that was really supervised by adults. No yanky panky going on there or you was barred for good. Sure are great memories. |

"84% Dixie. Do you still use Confederate money?" The problem was that some of the questions did not have a Southern answer. How do they decide whether you are Yankee or Dixie when most of your answers are rated:common through out the United States? Of course being an Air Force Brat helped rid me of the other 16% Dixie. My Mama was from south Ga. and my Daddy is from Texas. I was born in Texas, raised most of my life in South Ga. and South Texas. I was teased (in my own family) about my Texan drawl. My Yankee husband makes comments all the time about my choice of words. |

Jan I've been locked out the site!!!!!!!1 I'm not loved anymore. I was locked out but that's not the only reason I've not been on. I had 25 sweats shirts to embroidery, and 130 pencil cases. I also went to the embroidery conference in Baton Rouge. I'm on the video if anyone is interested in seeing me. I'm the blimp in the pink shirt waving with my crazy self. It's on www.allbrands.com website. When you go to the site click on the link all the way to the top left hand corner of the page that says Bayou Embroidery Conference video. It was really fun. Only thing is I want a new machine now. The Janome 6600 came out with a new walking foot that is a "got to have" in the quilting line. Raymond says maybe that with a Little Gracie for Christmas and my Birthday this year. Well see, if I don't con him into getting it for me before then. Jan I had a few glasses of wine and boy did I sleep good those nights. I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

Susie, that was a neat video. Definitely toe-tapping music. I don't know if I spotted you. I may be seeing different colours but it looked like you were in a lilac top with a white short-sleeved jacket. Must have been a great conference! Yep...the 6600 is a neat machine. I saw a demo of the walking foot at a show held in Ottawa last October. But now when I go to my local dealer he keeps pointing to the 11000 and says that it has my name on it. I just keep saying "No way"... I don't have enough time to do all the quilting projects that I want...I'm not gonna start embroidering!!! TTFN from

Joanie--for some reason I pictured it being in the northwest part of the state (have no idea why!) I know where Talledega is and of course Birmingham. In fact, we flew out of B'ham when we went out to AZ. We are 90 miles from Atlanta however driving to B'ham and flying out of there (about 2.5 hrs from here) saved us $750 between the 3 tickets on Delta. We flew from there to Atlanta and then to Tucson--go figure! Julie
