Here is a math trick so unbelievable that it will stump you.
Personally I would like to know who came up with this and why that person is not running the country.

1. Grab a calculator. (you won't be able to do this one in your head)
2. Key in the first three digits of your phone number (NOT the area code)
3. Multiply by 80
4. Add 1
5. Multiply by 250
6. Add the last 4 digits of your phone number
7. Add the last 4 digits of your phone number again.
8. Subtract 250
9. Divide number by 2

Do you recognize the answer?

That's pretty cool. Those math tricks amaze me because I stink at math.

Just taking a guess, but is the answer your phone number??? Don't want to be bothered to try this on a calc.

Those little tricks always amaze me. Once you know the trick it makes sense, but like you said.... who comes up with these? :dave:

I agree, who sits down and figures out how to make these things work??? How does someone even come up with these things???? Pretty cool though.

Vicki I agree!!
Sometimes those little things do rattle your brain a bit and wonder HOW someone came up with that...

But any number times 8 by 250 would shift the number left 4 digits and make room for the last four digits. And last four digits plus self and devided by 2 is the number itself.

Ah a good one! Almost got me. Ya Let's send this to the group that manages the budget (deficit). I bet their answer is a negative number.

There is nothing wrong with a geek - I had a fabulous time knitting a mobious strip on one go the other year. Soon I am planning on a klein bottle hat!

Yes Robin geeks can sew. I'm a computer geek and I'm learning.

Comforting to know geeks can sew too. But I did knit 20 yrs ago, and will never knit a mobius strip. I think that takes much more than math.

Strong fingers, mostly - you start in the middle and knit around the edge, continually. It lays really flat under a coat. My daughter used to confuse stoners with it when they were high - kept them amused for hours (or until they came down) looking for the other side....
