I am looking for templates for free motion monogramming and a good book with instructions on how to get good results. Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

Arubert - Welcome to Sew What's New. I am sure you will get a good response to your question. My response is: Free motion and templates don't usually go together as free motion means no templates, but I know what you mean. There are masses of information on line complete with diagrams you could download and then print onto paper and lay over your fabric. Just type "free motion quilting instructions" into Google. There are even instructions on Sew What New main page. As far as books go I have 3 different books but would recommend the one I currently have on loan from a friend as it has a whole section of designs which I copied from to practice. The other two are primarily descriptive and primarily on meandering stitches. Show me How to Machine Quilt, a fun, no mark approach by Kathy Sandbach (2002), C&T Publishing - is an expensive (from my perspective for it's size - $30.99 Cnd) by wonderfully easy to read and understand. Good Luck and let us know what worked for you. *~*~*~* Nancy*~*~*~* " I try to take one day at a time - but sometimes several days attack me at once."

I am also confused as to which foot to use on my sewing machine. There is an embroidery/darning foot and a free motion guide foot. do i want one with a spring on it or just a snap on clear foot? |

I don't have a free motion guide foot so am not sure what you mean. I use a darning foot. I was fortunate enough to have 2 darning feet, for some reason or other, so on one had the front cut out which is miracle for me to see what I am doing. There are many feet you can buy depending on your machine. The book that I mentioned has a good section on feet. My other free motion quilting books are older and don't have such discussions. There has been so many new developments on attachments and techniques that it is interesting to read how they do things without them. *~*~*~* Nancy*~*~*~* " I try to take one day at a time - but sometimes several days attack me at once."
