I am sewing on some lycra material that has rubber dots (from JoAnn's). My needle keeps getting stuck in the dots. I have changed needles and the material is a bear to sew on. I make ice skating costumes for my granddaughter. Any ideas that will make me successful with this material? When I asked at my JoAnn's store all I got was blank looks from the staff! :USA:

Is it sticking at the presser foot? If it is, a teflon or walking foot might help. You might also have better luck by using strips of paper, the lighter the better, like med paper would be good but even adding machine tape would work. You can just tear it away after the fact.

You might try that stuff that you put on metallic thread to help it go thru the eye of the needle. Can't remember what it is called. Try a little dab on your needle to see if it helps.

Sewer's Aid...don't get it in your tension disks...use it on the needle only.
I'd use a walking foot too.(anything BIG to keep the fabric from comming back up with the needle.)

Are you serging? I sew skating dresses everyday and haven't run across a fabric that doesn't go through my machine or needle. Yeah, and Joanns isn't the best place to ask for advise. It's all about selling notions there.

Wow! I love that yellow outfit you made. They are all very pretty hope my dughter gets into something like that its so pretty and graceful, and I could have fun making outfits :-) No suggestion on the material sticking......I know what material you are talking about though. It has dots on it that have a rubbery feel to them like they put them on too thick or something.

Hey ninifav! Sewing with lycra is a whole world of it's own. I love it. I just finished an entire dance studio. Whew!! I have a hard time with regualar fitted garments now that I work 99% of the time with lycra. Just a different scale of fitting, etc. but I love it.
thanks for the compliments!
Dee
