HI all--I have a quick question..well, I really need some good advice.
My mother and I are participating in a "trunk show" this weekend in Alabama. It's basically a big consignment sale for kids clothing and things. I have had to iron everything and everything has to be on hangers placed in a certain way. I had to make cards out of business card stock to pin on with the price, size, etc.
Anyway, I was hoping to get a couple of diaper bags made to at least take. I've sold 3 of my bags so far and I figured I could make 2-3 more and take with me to the sale. You can bring things like that. I also made 2 so far of the little bags for little girls with batting inside (will put pictures on my photo I album link I sent out earlier in the week.) I am running out of time so my question is--do you think I should focus on making more of the little girl purses and possibly a couple of teenage style bags or the diaper bags?? I have tomorrow evening and Friday to sew and that's it! Well, really tomorrow evening unless Al is home on Friday (which is a possibility.) If he's home I'll have more time --it's hard to sew with the little one running around.
Just was wondering what you guys thought I should focus on more. I'll take at least 1 diaper bag. I have some really cute fabric that's neutral for boy or girl that turned out very nicely on a bag that I made last week. So that one's a definite.
I go every month to the Amanda Remembered boutique here to their warehouse sale and they have the little soft bags that go like hot cakes so I didn't know if I should focus on those since they seem to be popular. Plus they can be monogrammed (as can the diaper bags though.)
Any advice would be appreciated!! Hope you're all having a great Hump Day and thanks in advance for any thoughts ..
Julie

Julie, with my daughter expecting in November I lean toward the diaper bags, however, realistically, it is probably faster and cheaper to make up the smaller bags for the kids and they will probably sell better as they would have a lower price....I know the craft shows in Phoenix a lot of the time the smaller, less expensive items go faster than the more expensive. You could always take orders for the diaper bags if there is interest before you sell the one have made already.

Good luck with your sales.

Oh, Lyn, you've got a great mind! I agree that you need a 'sample' diaper bag so you could take orders. And I like the idea of the little bags, and they would be quicker to make up, that's for sure. Little girls love little purses, besides Easter is coming up too. GOod luck with your sale.

If you have the fabric for the diaper bags, you might even take some fabric swatches along on cards. Then if you take orders, you can write all the info on the cards along with the fabric they chose? You can also emphasize the idea that you could embroider the bags...and charge a little more for the monogram? It is just an idea, I don't know how practical it might be.

I agree with the order taking. if you whip up some smaller bags you can also get a little candy to put in them to lure the children in :bluewink: This is horrible and I hate when people do that because I end up paying for it to keep my daughter happy, but that may be a bonus to the smaller ones, just a thought. Are you taking any of the reversable outfits you made?? They are super cute, I am tring to figure out how to make a shirt and skirt outfit reversable So far so good!!Good luck at the sale!! Hand out lots of bizz cards.

I sent you a private message, please read!!

It will also provide inventory control which is always a consideration when planning custom orders.

Thank you all so much--so far (and this is gonna be all I take) I have 2 diaper bags..one out of lime green with tiny pink polka dots and a bag made out of the ABC fabric (my fav.) I also have a smaller little girls bag made out of lady bug fabric with the straps covered in red/polka dot gross grain ribbon..I have the 2 little bags with the batting on the inside as well--so 2 diaper bags and 3 little girl bags total. The lady bug bag could probably be a older girl's bag as well. I used interfacing on it to give it a bit more shape. I am also gonna take your advice and take some fabric swatches. Some how I have wound up with tons of fabric. I pick up remnants most places I go some of which is really cute. I made some cute cards the other night with "Stitched exclusively by Bella's Closet" on them with my name, phone # and email address. I think they turned out cute..I used one of my scrapbook hole punchers with a star shape and tied the tag on with ribbon...I think they turned out cute.
Stephi--thanks for the compliments on the jumpers !!! I am not gonna take any of them. Sarah is still fitting in a couple of them with the exception of the Christmas jumper. I'm gonna hang on to that one in case my brother and his wife give us a nieces someday (hoping!) It's one of my favorites so I think I'll keep it for them. I am debating taking the gingham pillowcase dress though. It's a bit too short for Sarah. The other jumpers although a bit too short still fit her in the torso so I thought I'd just make some little capris or pantaloons to go with it.
Thank you all again for the advice! I'm exhausted just getting everything ready (clothes, bags, etc.) We're going up tonight to set up and then tomorrow is the sale. There are 26 hostesses so I think it'll be good. I found out yesterday that you could also bring women's clothes so I had originally thought about taking some of my scrubs that don't fit anymore but I just don't feel like getting them ready (ironed, etc) so maybe I'll through them on ebay LOL!!
