Hi everyone...I am curious..is there a good way to save embroidery designs?
I keep mine in files on my hard drive but I am thinking of putting them all on a CD to save the space on my drive...I am curious how you all keep yours...there probably is some software out there too...any ideas?
What I mostly wonder is if you put them on CD's or save on hd....
thanks Ria

Right now most of the designs we have are free ones that we have downloaded. They're still on our hard drive, but when we get enough of them, we do plan to save them onto a CD. I'm going to be making file folders to describe them, such as Trucks, Animals, Flowers, Cartoons, etc. Eventually I'd like to make an excel sheet with the file names listed and the description of the design (if the file name is only a number).

Hope this helps!

Thanks Cookie, this is exactly what I am thinking of doing. I have a lot here on my hard drive and I want to get it off...so I was thinking of saving it all in categories on some CD's like I did with all my art pictures which take up so much room. The text file ( color sheets ) I can keep on my hard drive as they dont take up that much space. Take care.....:) Ria

you also might look into getting a jump drive that plugs into your ubs outlet and save them on there...they are fairly cheap and are susposed to last a life time...CD can get old and the data unretriveable also they get scrached or go bad...I would hate for your computer to crash (did i say that outloud) and you loose all the designs...I learned the hard way and back up to my jump drive once a week.

I use CD's, FlashCards and USB. (my machines use the flashcards and USB themselves.)

a GOOD source for flash cards and USB memory is

www.jr.com

I use them a LOT, they're fast, cheap and they'll take it back if it doesn't work.

another problem I find is knowing from where these designs came originally-- sometimes I might want to go back to that site; the zip title may just be a number, and no URL is recorded with the zip download-- would anyone know of some download programme which also stores the original URL please?

Elegante, here is what you can do for that.....you do not have to keep the design number exact when you save it...I always add ( 1 ) or (22)...these are just examples....I add a number in parenthesis after the zip and be sure to rename the unzipped design too.....then I have a file named.....Embr.URL......I save the url for the designs here and put the same number (22) etc....after or before the url and be sure when you use the URL again to remove that number and parenthesis before you paste it.....it works for me...:) Ria

PS....if for example I have 35 from Ann The Gran....then I use that same number in parenthesis after all her designs numbers.....I just started doing this....it works......:)

OR another thing you can do...make embr. design files for each url....like.....
Ann the gran file..and save all her designs here with the url in the same file in a file named URL.....but only if you don't mind having all sorts of designs together....many pople like to put all bird designs in one file etc.....or flowers all in one file etc...so it wouldnt work for that.....I stared doing this with Anns designs...I have all of hers in one file.....:)

PS...why doesn't my signature show up like the others..?
I cant seem to get rid of the html codes that are showing up
here...I have my own website so I do know how to use them
but it won't work for me on here.....
