I'm repeating this because it was"covered up" before anyone answered.
My question is - has anyone recovered an upholstered wing chair. Any hints would be appreciated.

I would start by taking pictures of before. Before you take it apart pics then you can take pic after. Then take apart & while you are taking it apart take pictures so you know how to put it together because you are going to put it back together in the reverse order.

Hopefully arms on your wing back chair don't have the goose neck shape in the front as they are the most difficult to do.

Note where you will have to make changes such as pad this here pad a little there to bring it back to life again. Note where you want motif, if one, on the inside back while the cushion is in the job so you get good print placement, also note where to put it on arms. Cushion, cushion boxing & below cushion boxing should flow as though you laid a piece of fabric there & it all matches.

Good luck.

I hope this is not your first upholstery job.

I know ya'll are talking about reupholstering a wing back chair but, any ideas on making a cover for a recliner ? I have a real good small lane recliner with open arms. Most I can figure out but how do you fix the back & seat where it reclines back ? I mean how do you fix it to where it will go back into place whe the chair goes upright again ? This is also a rocker but that presents no problem. I just want to make a good neat fit for it.Thanks for any help.

also check your local Library for books on this. i found some good ones there and also bought one some where years ago. can't remember where.
i tried adding new fabric over old and used those upholstery tacks (decorative nails) but didn't always hit wood so it didn't work well. Especially with my Husband using one of the chairs. so I gave up and ended up getting new chairs. good luck.

Hi Beachgirl,
No - I abandoned the idea. I decided it was beyond my capabilities.

Lise, I can certaintly understand. I've been sewing for years but when it comes to my recliner I'm stumped on that one part. I just don't want to waste good material. One of these days I'll do the muslin thing & then if I can figure it out I'll buy the material. Hopefully before the chair becomes an embarrassment. LOL. If not, it's only a chair & can be replaced.

Have you thought of doing slip covers? I googled using "how to make slip covers" and got lots of sites that give some instructions (with pics too).

I found this site (http://d7229.u23.www21.onlyhosting.net/pages/3010/) that says that they give a course and that they have a DVD and video. But I can't seem to find where they sell the video on the site.

I re-upholestered a curved chair a few years ago. I took off all the old layers as I had to redo the webbing in the seat. I used the previous one for my pattern. It turned out great....but I nearly killed myself taking out all the staples that were used!
