Hello.

I've made a few knee-length A-line skirts, and both of them ride up/bunch together a little above the knees. I think some sort of pleat or gore is needed, but how do I know where?

The skirts were very easy to make, but I don't feel comfortable walking in them. They aren't too small, just not hanging right :o(

Any help would be appreciated -- I've made a skirt with godets before that didn't do this, but looking for another solution.

Hi RheLynn, and welcome to our site! What fabric are your skirts make of? Is it too light of a fabric to hold a hem down? What about a strip of interfacing or wigan inside the hem to help stiffen the hem? Is the pattern on the straight of grain or bias? Some things to think about..... let us know.

Also not sure what kind of bunching up you mean...Is it that you need a slip, so it's riding up your hose? Is it loosey-goosey near the hem? Or is it the hem itself that bunches when you sew it? With a bias-cut skirt, you would need to hang the skirt for at least 24 hours prior to hemming--this lets the weave settle so that when you hem it, it's at its final length.

If it is not bias cut, did you cut it correctly on the straight of grain. Things that are supposed to be on the straight of grain take on a life of their own if they are not cut correctly.
