Hi everyone Has anyone made a garter for a bride? And if so what did you make it from, elastic covered by lace or what. I want to make one for a friend and am not absolutely certain what to make it from. |

Satin covered elastic is the 'norm'....but these days you can sew elastic to almost anything...ribbon,, etc. Embelished with rings, hearts, flowers, whatever...trimmed in lace, or not.

I made a head band out of 1" ribbon and lace, same theory as a garter. I just took and doubled the ribbon sewed lace to both sides and slid elastic into it and tightened to fit right. You can also go the a christian book store where they engrave bibles and they can write on the ribbon for you brides and grooms name and date. JAT Stephi Stephi

I made my daughters with blue satin ribbon doubled and ruffled lace on either side, ran an elastic throught it, put some silk roses on it, all for it to get tossed into the ocean accidently!!

There are some really pretty ones. You can make them just about any way you like. I think there are instructions on the site here for one somewhere. http://www.sew-whats-new.com/projects/garter.shtml This is just a basic to work from. The photos are not much but you get the main idea. You can really dress them up. MaryW

There are two more posted at this site. The third points you to the Sew-What's-New garter. They are listed under the "wedding" catagory. http://www.angelfire.com/planet/mcshelpsite/sewingstuff/freepatterns.html pam
