My next project is to try to figure out how to cover 4 oval laundry baskets with the heavy weight muslin that was donated to our church World Relief project. We want to sell them at the Mennonite Relief sale in May. Any ideas or suggestions for a pattern besides drafting and experimenting? I googled and came up with several ideas, but they were all for baskets with corners. If you have done one of these or know of a free pattern, please share your tips and ideas. Melanie

Another thought. You could cut out the oval for the base of the basket. Then measure around the top of the basket, and the depth needed, plus the amount that will go over the top plus seam allowances!!. Cut out one long piece (or 2) which is the length of the circumference of the basket, with a bit of room to spare, gather one end and sew it onto the base piece. Then put an elastic in a casing on the top piece, or a thin tie that you make from the fabric. You may have to adjust the gathers somewhat so it fits properly. I did this with a flower basket that I made for my daughter's flower girl. It worked quite well.

What about checking www.cranberrycottage.com? Their patterns seem to be based on the Longaberger baskets/liners. Maybe their liner patterns will match up with your needs. They have a corn basket liner pattern that is 17" round by 11.5" high. If you click on "Which basket do I have" and know the measurements you need you can scroll thru to see what basket will match up. Then just order the basket's liner pattern. Just a thought. - Maureen.
