I don't know how much of a Katie Couric fan you guys are but I have to ask what you all think about her going from the Today show to CBS. I think it's a good move for her and I was surprised that they would put a woman anchor in that slot. Afterall, men have always held that position. I think she'll do a great job. I will miss her on the Today Show. I always flip back and forth from the Today show and Good Morning America. I really enjoyed the broadcasts from Italy during the Olympics. I met Katie Couric when she visited my hometown several years ago. She seemed to be a very sweet and kindhearted lady and absolutely gorgeous! She took some pictures with my daughter. I worked in dialysis at the time and my patients would always enjoy watching her in the mornings during their dialysis treatments which would range anywhere from 3-5 hours. I told her about them and how it would be the thrill of their lives to meet her and she made some adjustments to her schedule!! It was so kind! Her family roots are from Eufaula, AL where I am from so she had come "home" to visit. Elizabeth was in elementary school and she's in 9th grade now so it's been quite a few years ago. Julie

I like her. She is professional but sweet too. She has raised the bar for women in the media.

You're right Mary. I think that's why I admire her so much. It seems like there are professions which are primarily women (like nursing) and then there are those primarily men. I have seen even in nursing a great increase in male nurses. Personally, I like having male nurses around b/c physically they have more strength and move patients around better at times. If you have a combative patient, they are VERY good to have around! Katie Couric, to me, is just a good all around woman..she appears to be a great mom, great at her profession and has remained "human." So often celebrities lose that human touch when portrayed in the media. Julie

I really like her and agree with everyone on how professionally she is.However I was watching Ric and Bubba this a.m. and thier opinion was quite different. I was totally surprised by thier opinion fo her.I wondered had I missed something or if Rick and Bubba were just misinformed ALABAMA morning deejays. Has anyone else heard of Rick and Bubba and if so what is your take on them. |

They were talking about her being a libreal. I don't really know what they mean, but evidently they are republican, which is fine, and agree more with the Bush administration than she does. They were also taking shots at the amount of salary she is going to get.She must have made a remark in the past about prefering to see Jimmy Carter speaking in person than seeing Ronald Reagans library, and then they got on how she looks and how she wears her hair and if she could do the job of the nightly news. Of course she can, or she would not have accepted the position. Some times the good ole boys go to for. |

You're right..sometimes the media does go too far. I think she'll do a fine job. As far as her political views, I believe she may tend to be a bit liberal which is OK b/c that's her right as an American. I have found her to be somewhat reluctant at times to express her views although I know there are networks which tend to, not blatently, side with a particular party. It's not always apparent but especially during the elections, I noticed some stations expressing some more conservative opinions and others, more liberal. Again, it's our rights to do that. I think she'll do a good job. She's very professional and I think she'll be a great asset to CBS and a loss to NBC although I do think Meredith Viera (sp) will do just fine. Will take some getting used to though not seeing Katie on the Today show!

Well...I'm all for women doing the news...but I don't like Katie Couric. After 51 yrs of watching the CBS Evening news. I will be switching. I told them that too. (like they or anyone else cares....). I liked Dan Rather..I like Bob Sheiffer..I liked John Roberts (who was passed over for the post...). I liked Barbara Walters...I like Paula Zahn...I like the women on CNN. For some reason Katie Couric gets on my nerves...I like Ann Curry...I like Diane Sawyer...I guess it's just a like/dislike personality thing... (I always have to be different... ) Chrys

Chrys if ever there has been a classy lady in journalism, it's Barbara Walters. I watched 20/20 for years and enjoyed watching her interviews. I hated it when she left 20/20 and I actually watched her last segment. I know they truly miss her on that show! I have heard many say that they don't like Katie Couric and I personally was a bit put out with the Today show during the elections a time or two.. Julie
