I just bought a hip curve ruler. All the sewing magazines said that it was a must for drafting a pants pattern. When I bought it, the description said that the ruler could be used to make 2-piece sleeves, lapels, and hemlines. My question is how do I use the ruler to make all of these!? -Danielle |

Mine came on a card with pictures on it of how to use for all the different places you need a special curve for..When I use it , I insert it right back into the slots on the card and put it away..

Mine came with no info at all. Peggy Sagers has DVD's and hands-on workshops where she demonstrates the proper use of them. Peggy Sagers products (http://www.silhouettepatterns.com/books.htm) If you have a chance to take a class with her at a sewing expo, It think you'd get a lot out of it. But for starters, if you have a pair of pants that fits perfectly, lay it out and then match up the curves on the fashion ruler to curves on the side seam, for ex., and take note of the numbers on the ruler at the top and bottom of the matched-up part of the curve on the ruler. Write those numbers down. If those pants fit you perfectly, then you'll want to make ALL of your pants & skirts have that same curve on the side seam. So you can pre-adjust your new patterns using the ruler, with the numbers you marked down. This lets you skip the guessing and get to sewing right away. Same would go for necklines that fit (not gap). There's a ton to do with the ruler for armholes, but honestly, I could use a refresher!
