Hi all, I'd like to make my dd a birthday outfit that she can play in at her party but still looks a bit posh. I'd like to find a scrub pants pattern for her age, a t-shirt pattern, and maybe a dress top pattern that actually fits her. I've seen Octtobre reccomended and Kwik Sew but wondered if anyone had any actual pattern numbers that they reccomend? She's a couple days from 10 months, long but petite body and waist. (18 lbs, 29 inches) No sewing measurements yet, I keep forgetting to measure her when she's alseep.

Also, if anyone knows of ANY pillowcase dress pattern for her little body I would be happy to hear of it! :)

And just so there's something to see on the thread.. lol
Here's a basket I made her for Easter. It has a Wee Wonderful bunny, needle felted egg and a heart and goose applique on wool bag (Supposed to represent "Cross my heart, I love you Goose")

cute basket and goodies! sorry I can't help with the pattern numbers, my grandkids are bigger than your little one. But, I know someone will be around with some info for you.

As far as scrub pants, do you have a capri pants pattern and add to it ?? Do you want a drawstring in the scrub pants?
I am also looking to make Sarah a birthday outfit. I find some really cute fabric at Hobby Lobby with birthday cupcakes (sorta whimsical cupcakes) and am thinking of doing something like a Rhumba outfit for her. Just a thought..they are cute but playful as well. You could also just do a swing set outfit and add bows to the top shoulders and legs (sorta like the Bailey boys outfits) and that would be cute.
Just a couple of thoughts.
Oh--the pillowcase dress--I'll try to find the measurements I used for Sarah's last year's pillowcase dress and send it. They are very easy..

I like the Kwik Sew patterns and I would recommend getting the books they have for babies and toddlers since they have so many options to make from each pattern. For example you can make t-shirts, sweat shirts, jackets, shirts all from the same basic pattern pieces with just a few changes which the book gives you. I have found for my grandchildren they patterns were pretty much on size for their age group. The patterns are printed on heavy white paper and you have to trace the sizes you want. The books also give you ideas for embelishments also and aplique patterns.

This might be cute for a birthday dress. It is from an older Ottobre magazine.

I really like the Ottobre magazine dress. It's adorable!
I work with a pediatrician who just returned from Iraq and has a little girl who's a bit older than my Sarah. She told me that she took her sewing machine over to Iraq with her and passed her time by sewing (when she wasn't taking care of soldiers, of course.) She made her daughter a whole wardrobe. What struck me was that she said she has never owned one single store bought pattern. She said she just keeps up with her daughter's measurements (in Iraq, she'd have her husband measure her and send her current measurements.) She said that she cut alot of the clothing freehand by just using her baby's measurements and sometimes used newspaper patterns she drew out herself. I was quite impressed! The way she described her daughter's clothes sounded like they were just exquisite and I'm hoping to see pictures soon.
Case in point, she told me that she would help me figure out how to make a rhumba outfit for Sarah's b'day outfit. I showed her a picture on ebay and I'm gonna measure Sarah and see what we can come up with.
She also knits and has been making little hats to match every single outfit (almost a beret style hat) but I don't think that's something I would be very good at doing. My grandmother tried to teach me to knit and crochet a long time ago and it didn't go over very well. Just not coordinated enough I suppose.

Sherrie, that's an adorable dress!
I found the magazine at Sewzannes, but it's out of stock. Would you know of anyone else that sells older Ottobre magazines?

I may try the Kwik Sew baby book. I have very few patterns, just a couple I bought at Wal-mart and Hancock (McCalls). All but one pattern calls for fleece or heavy knits like sweatshirt material.

I'd like to try a rhumba set..if I do it'll be my first ruffle. :nervous: I have no capri pant pattern yet, but am definately looking.

I did see on another forum where someone would make a shirt/pants set and put the number of the child's age on the front as an applique. I thought that might be cute to do but maybe not quite as big..maybe just a little 1 on the top much like you would see the alligator on an Izod.

And I would LOVE the instructions/measurments for the pillowcase dress! :)

There are quite a few older Ottobres you can purchase on the website that Sherri posted. They are quite reasonable in price, and come very quickly. I just got two summer ones, 2004, 2005. They have such cute stuff in them and they fit really nicely for my long skinny 7month old GD. I still have to add on to the arm and leg length, but they seem to fit slimmer than the other Big 4.

I think appliquing the child's age would be a precious idea!

OK so I shouldnt share this great little secret with you guys because I know you will all rush and buy up my patterns, LOL!! But on ebay I have a favorite seller called Sailors paradise He/she sells patterns for dirt cheap and has tons...no litterally tons of patterns and the shipping is super duper reasonable. You might check there because last I looked they had some super cute baby and young children outfits. I just bought two maternity patterns and my diaper bag pattern for under $15 for all. It came really fast, and was in perfect shape, that way I dont feel like I am spending a fortune on patterns.

Just an Idea for you and everyone else who reads this post, OH NO I just released the hounds!!
