I live in the city.

Yet one morning when I woke up, a round squirrel was sitting on my patio right out side the breakfast nook. I knock on the glass patio door. She turned and casted a glance at me. Then she turned back and continued looking outward.

This morning the turkeys were having a meeting in my yard. I opened the window and asked them to keep it down. They decided I was too noisy and turned their back to me. I can do nothing but to laugh.

A tall rabbit is sitting in my front yard cleaning his feet.

What can I say? Life is tough!

I think it would be wonderful to wake up and see a sight like the turkeys! It reminds me of my parent's house. Made me think of the time my parents were telling me that something (or somethings) were eating her pears right off of the trees on their side lot. Then something started eating some of the flowers right out of the beds my mom had worked so hard to perfect!! It drove my dad nuts b/c he just couldn't figure out what in the world it could be UNTIL one day, my mom woke up early and walked out side to see a herd of DEER nibbling away at the pears, at the flowers and every other thing they could reach! She said it was a beautiful sight as far as deer go in the early morning hours but she was hot that they were destroying her gardens! The funny thing was they left her house, headed straight down the road, stopping to nibble other's plants and delicacies on the way! Anyway, eventually the deer stopped coming around and I almost think my mom missed seeing them. One morning she said she went out there and shooed them away and they looked at her as if to say "yeah, right lady," and kept on nibbling...

Oh I can totally relate to losing flowers.

I planted some oriental lilies last year and got one grougous bloom. After that, nohing. Upon close examination, I found all the tips were nipped. In the days following, all the leaves were gone. Then I saw the baby wabbit one day. The wabbit saw me too and started running into the bush, hid there with its behind sticking out on the open (there was a cute little white spot on his butt). I was mad and laughing so hard at the same time. He must thought I was crazy.

This year the wabbit got too big to climb into our fence. I wonder what he'll have for dinner...

This is a tiny village with farm land all around us.
We have raccoons in the garbage every Thursday when it goes out to the street.
We once had a skunk living in our basement.
I did serious damage to my car -- not to mention my nerves -- when I hit a deer on a village street.
And now my neighbor -- who I really like -- is so pleased because she has a friend that has some 4-or 5-year old horse manure for her garden.
I'm ready to move to the city too.

My DM was always sending pictures of her critters. She lived in an apartment at the base of a tree covered hill and on the hill was an interstate highway. She had racoons, squirrels, chipmunks, shunks and even a fox in addition to the birds. She was so happy living there feeding the animals and evenually getting some of them to even eat out of her hands. She even had a few brave squirrels that broke thru her screen and got into the house. Mom was able to lay a line of peanuts to the door to get them out again. She said she was some startled to see a squirrel on her table that day and even more surprised that they didn't do any damage while they were in the house.
The wildlife is starting to show itself around our house again. A highway was completed 2 years ago across our land. I've seen turkey this year so far. I imagine the deer will start showing up soon once the fawns get a little bit of age to them. I so enjoy watching the animals.

We live in farm country here in SE Michigan. A couple weeks ago there was a skunk in the back yard not far from the porch. I've "encountered" it on my way to my Jeep in the darkness on my way to work in the a.m. So, I thought I'd have to scare it off somehow. There was an empty plastic Pepsi bottle on the counter so I filled it with water, went out on the porch and gave it my best underhanded throw. Could you believe I hit the skunk? It looked at me, the bottle, then took off into the woods. I haven't seen it since.
We had 5 deer stop off at our pond yesterday. Of course all cameras were in the wrong part of the house (I have 6). Rabbits have been tormenting my cat and the coyotes are yipping every night. The heron has been wading in the pond when we're not looking and the raccoon stops by for fishing trips.

THE funniest thing that ever happened in regards to "visitors" was one night when I was probably in elementary school, we came home from somewhere and I went back outside to feed our Brittany Spaniel, Mitzi. Anyway, I clearly remember that there was a FOX out in the garage. I went back in and told my parents. My dad comes out with the gun b/c he was worried the fox was rabid. About that time, the dog and fox (we later found had a name--Wally) were running circles around my mom's car chasing each other (not sure who started the chase but anyway..) About the time my dad held up the gun, he noticed that the fox had on a COLLAR! That's right..this red fox was someone's pet! Turns out Wally belonged to neighbors down the street and so my dad called them and they came and picked up their little pal. Wally visited our home several times over the course of the next few months probably for Mitzi's food...eventually we stopped seeing him so we never were sure what happened.
I grew up in a small town in Alabama and so Columbus (although some still call it here like living in the sticks) is a big city to me.

This stuff is our rural pretty daily life here  Although last year when I had a bumper crop on my fruit trees, so left allot of fruit on the trees, I couldn't believe the amount of deer one morning in my orchard area! They also cleaned up the extra pumpkins & things from the garden for us. The coyettes are regular nightly noise, our dogs howl back at them. The turkey actually have a crossing at the base of my hill they get so thick. Just watch my chickens when you come down my drive  We enjoy it!

Well... we bought a fixer upper a few years back before the real estate price went up, didn't know what we're getting ourselves into then :-0

Long story short, after we moved in, we realized the empty land next to us will not have any house built for about 100 years. We don't own it, but we have to maintain it. There's so little land left around here, wild animals struggle to survive and often times cross the boundaries (or maybe we crossed their boundaries??).

I also have too many birds around. Either they don't have other places to stay, or they just know we're pushovers. They make sure the fruits on the trees are always gone by the time we get off work. They have all my flower seeds for breakfast and poo all over. Never know which flower would come up where. Life is full of surprises.
