I am going to make London Blinds using a contrasting fabric for the inverted pleats. Would adding corded self piping to the seams at the pleats be a good idea, or would it interfere with the way the shade hangs when open?

I've thought a lot about this since I first read your post yesterday. I would think that with the shades down it wouldn't be a problem. In my mind, I see the shades splitting open dramatically when they are raised. Since the piping is a little stiffer and you'll have extra seams, I think that they will pull outward exposing more of the pleat above the "pull up". I just don't know what that will look like. It might just be a rather irregular opening, I'm not 100% sure. It could be a rather dramatic effect IF it works. I think that it is time for a little trip to Wal Mart for some $1 a yard fabric of similar weight to do a little experimentation. $5 Invested ahead of time could save you big bucks later.

Paroper,

I canned the corded piping idea. I am almost finished with the shade and here is what I did. I made the inverted pleat in a contrasting fabric. Instead of piping I folded 1/3 of an inch of that fabric to the front and stitched it so that it almost looks like (uncorded) piping. I'll post a picture as soon as it is finished (hopefully tomorrow). As a matter of fact, I would like it to open up so that the inverted pleat fabric will show when raised. So far the shade looks great!

Thanks for your input.

I really think that this idea is better. I think it will look better when it is raised. I can't wait to see your project photos...a really different type of window treatment!

I have one panel for the large window finished. Hopefully starting the other panel tomorrow. The rod is supposed to be delivered today, and DH will put it up ASAP. Will post pictures as soon as soon as they are up.
