Hi everyone! We just bought an almost new outdoor wicker set at an auction. I want to make cushions for the chair and the love seat. I have never attempted anything like this...have always done just baby clothes and dolls. I have 2 questions..1. Is there a special fabric I should use for outdoors and 2. Does anyone know offhand of any patterns for these things? Thanks so much for any help you can give me...I really appreciate it. If I had known that grandchildren were so much fun, I would have had them first!!

I have seen decorating shows on TV talking about outdoor fabrics for making cushions. The fabrics can have UV protection and can be left out in all weather. I have seen some at a fabric store here in Ottawa, but I haven't ever tried it. Maybe these links will help with making the cushions. http://sewing.about.com/library/weekly/aa040498.htm http://www.denverfabrics.com/pages/static/pillows/outdoor-cushions.htm http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/dc_design_porch_sunroom/article/0,1793,HGTV_3380_3875052,00.html TTFN from

There are patterns for out door cushions but I just measure for what I need. For fabrics you do need for outdoor use. Some are better than others of course. I like Sunbrella myself. You will want a sun fade resist, mildew proof, your cushion itself drain well & be mildew proof also. Something you can clean yourself or take off & wash. No matter how clean your yard, porch or Lanai are they will get dirty. Out door material can be quite high but worth it. Mine has lasted since sometime in the 70's. Still fine but I want a change. I think I got my money's worth. Oh. careful what thread you use also as regular thread will rot over time. |

Sunbrella is wonderful fabric and it comes in a variety of colors. Whatever is left over can be turned into gym bags and all kinds of things.

Sunbrella fabric and closed cell foam inside. With these, the water that manages to get in will go right through. These cushions last longer than the furniture!! nancy |

Absolutely. Cotton thread will rot quickly in the rain, sun, dampness, etc.
