Does any one have any curved rulers, and which one would you recommend ? I have seen three that I am interested in the 3in1 rule, the curve stick or the vary form curve stick. Here's a link to some of the pictures http://www.fairgate.com/product.cfm?prodid=18&lang=eng http://www.fairgate.com/product.cfm?prodid=17&lang=eng http://cgi.ebay.com/Fairgate-FG01-128P-Three-Rulers-in-One-for-patterns_W0QQitemZ8264406907QQcategoryZ4836QQcmdZV iewItem Laura

The one I have used the longest is most like the one from E-bay. It is the one that was required in college (35 years ago) for a flat pattern and design class. The other one I use is a little different. There is a picture at this site. It is the one with the Square off to one side. http://www.livingsoftnw.com/newsletter/vol11/general_pattern_prep.htm pam

Hi Bridesmom, I use this french curve ruler by Sew Easy. I like it as it has different seam gradings on it. It has been very useful over the years. You would be surprised at just how handy it is!! http://www.sewessential.co.uk/Category.asp?CategoryID=416&NumPerPage=5&page=1 Have fun! Westozmum aka Laura from the Land Down Under

THAT's the other one I use. I couldn't find a name brand on it, it is just so old that maybe they didn't have "brands" back then!

I use the variform and the curve both the same amount (Laura's first listed ones), but were a little hard to find and more expensive than the plastic ones . I use an old t square or one of my quilters squared for corners. It had and still have the 3 in one but find the plastic has chipped and I spend forever figuring out how to use it. I do like the metal curves for touch and and curves.

I use one like the one on Ebay. It was included with a kit from Lutterloh patterns and works well for drafting the patterns from them. I like the straight side with the curve so that you can connect the dots for points on the pattern. You probably have already gotten one by now. |

Bridesmom, I'm with Paroper's ruler. It's fabulous! However, if I had the choice of the three you suggested, I'd use the vary form because it has a deeper curve, for the back neck and a gathered armhole. You can find it in metal in New York City from a place called Sew True. But I have the Curve and the Square ruler from Livingsoft and I love it! The ruler has number sequences you use for a specific kind of curve. Such as an armhole is numbers 6-17, the back neckline is another group of numbers, etc. Also, there are slots in the ruler for seams (line the straight edge of the ruler on the cutting line and use your pencil in the slot and you have a seamline). Also, there are markings for button and buttonhole placement as well as there is a big hole in the center of the ruler for drawing a circle for your bust point on a pattern. The ruler comes in small marks, 1/8" for US and centimeters for all else. Even though I have three other curved rulers, I use the Curve and the Square ruler the most. It is only with the heart one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye"--Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Gosh I almost forgotten I'd posted that question!! I still haven't gotten anything yet, I was down in Bellingham Wa at Joann's and looked for them along with the Fastturn tube kit but they didn't have either. So I think I will wait until I get down to California in June and do some serious shopping then, I have my list all made up already!!

I too used the use the ebay one before I misplaced it. Now I can't seem to get any pants right by free hand drawing (I alter all pant pattern for better fit). I've also been to the local Joann and could not find any. Well, at least we have plenty of other fun things in California other than curved rulers - Robin

I'm around SF Bay Area. Sewing and crafting is not that big around here so our local options are somewhat limited. If you're going near LA, then it's like a whole other country. Textile business is big there. I order a lot of sewing supplies from stores located in LA & NY. If you plan on doing a lot of shopping, check online for stores within driving distance to where you'll stay (google for sewing supplies in California) and find out their store hours. Everytime we travelled down south, I bought so much stuffs our car or RV almost exploded. There're so many things to do in S Cal. You'll gonna have so much fun. Have handy a lot of sunscreen! - Robin

Thanks Robin, I am looking forward to getting down there and just hope my sister in law is good for fabric shopping. I know the husband will not want to go with me at all!
