I have an episode recorded of "Sew Much More" in which she (I am sorry I cannot remember the hostess' name) showed how to simply modify patterns for gussetted sleeves. I can't wait to try it. Anyone try this sort of thing (it basically gives more room in the underarms to make lifting one's arms a bit roomier and so that the garment doesn't hitch up so much when lifting)

I know what you're talking about, but haven't seen the episode. It does sound very cool. Usually when I've seen someone suggesting gussetting under-arm, they're saying to add a football shaped piece there. Is that what you're talking about? Ticia |

It can be diamond shape. Occasionally this passes through as a common design detail. It is a wonderful way to take care of arms and bustlines that are too snug. Gussitted (spelling...funny looking word) blouses and dresses are VERY comfortable!

Susan Khalje is the hostess of Sew Much More. I frequently go to DIY.com and search for the TV show and program. They have printed instructions which help a lot. I sometimes will add a gusset to my sleeves since I have a larger than normal bicep. Happy Stitching! Marty It takes one moment to change a life.

I saw this episode at one point (they air repeatedly) and used it exactly the way she demonstrated it. It turned out great and now it is part of my "bag of tricks". I love Susan Khaljie. She sews better than I do but she uses the same techniques. I especially appreciate her use of hand basting because I do a lot of it and sometimes think it is because I can't adapt to new, more efficient methods. Mary |

I keep trying to go to DIY.com, and I end up at what I'm assuming is a British home improvement store. I'm beginning to wonder if you really have to put it in all caps. I think I'm gonna go do that. Be right back. Okay that didn't work....... sigh, my computer hates me. Ticia |

Sorry about that. The actual link is DIYnet.com/link on crafts/ about the middle of the page you will see "Sew Much More" and then you can find the skills and techniques taught. Hope this helps. Marty It takes one moment to change a life.

The shape wasn't really like a football but an exaggeration of the regular sleeve. I will post pics when I do it. The shows are online at DIY? They stopped airing it and I was so upset! Xena the Sewing Princess ~ I have many skills

GUSSETS! I sw historical clothing and boy, do I have gussets. Just finished a couple of 18th century shirts with gussetted underarms and shoulders. I will have the blow by blow, fully photographed instructions posted on my site as soon as I finish the pirate pants I'm working on to finish the outfit. BTW, the pants have a gusset in the crotch! |

Are you saying you can add a gusset to a non-gussetted pattern? That sounds fabulous, but I wouldn't know when or how to do it! I am very interested in gussets. I've got a full bust and would like my shirts to allow my bust to exist instead of fighting it. I've also heard gussetted pants are more comfortable to move in. I have made them for my kids but they don't say anything about it (the two year old merely says stuff like, "More STAW-BERWWIES!" etc.) see the mundane life of a housewife.

Sure. Gussets are even added sometimes to RTW clothing when the clothing doesn't fit well.
