Must have been a liar. From my experience, it's really more of an all day sickness, and makes trips and vacations so much more complicated. Especially when visiting in-laws.
We had a wonderful trip planned to go with them up to North Texas and we were going to do all sorts of things. Then I got pregnant, this is a good thing, we had been trying, but it has thrown a few things for a loop (like my plan of losing weight before the next baby). So, we go up there, and I'm feeling miserable for most of the trip. There's nothing quite like feeling absolutely horrid and having to be sociable, when all you really want to do is either curl up in a ball and try to die, or maybe take a really long and luxurious bath while pretending that your tummy isn't killing you...... Or maybe both.
But, being with other people makes it much more complicated
I would definitely say that being pregnant when you already have another kid is exciting because you spend diaper changing time thinking "please don't throw up until after I've finished changing this diaper."
I still maintain that the first trimester is one of the best weight loss programs out there (almost as good as teaching was).

Ticia

Of course, those next two trimesters (or trimester and a part, in my case), were the most weight I've EVER gained.........

It's tough, huh? It's not easy, making a whole other peson from scratch! As long as your good news is out, feel free to bow out and go lie down and let the family go off on adventures while you rest. I remember being at an airport on the way back home from a trip, and I was so tired, I simply souldn't walk very quickly. I almost got trampled getting out of there!!

I had all day sickness too. In fact, I thought for the first 3 months I was just gonna die!! I hope you feel much better soon! :)

Yeah, I know I should be able to do so guilt free, but I just can't quite pull it off. I feel like I'm messing up others plans or other such things. Luckily, my husband is really good at putting his foot down for me, and saying, "No Ticia, you need to sleep, go to bed."

Well congrats, when is the big day? I myself was lucky I had 5 DC and didn't have morning sickness with the first 4. I felt like a million bucks. With the last one I had certain foods that would make me gag for the first month or so, but nothing as bad as all of you are talking about.

I certainly sympathize with you. I had nine months of "morning/all day" sickness.

Surprisingly, once it is all over, you forget all about the inconveniences and are ready to go through it again.

Congratulations!!!!

November 25, which I believe is the day before Thanksgiving. Amusingly enough, my brother's birthday is November 28. When we told him, his girlfriend got more excited than he did. Boys are funny that way.

It's been very random what sets me off. Sometimes I'll just be sitting there and suddenly feel like I'm about to gag and then I'm just sitting there wondering why I ever thought this was a good idea.

Congrats. I hope all goes well for you.

I am due June 19 with our 4th boy. I am thankfully past the icky, sicky stage, but past the fun part of the pregnancy. 7 weeks to go here, and I hope all goes well. I am excited about the new boy, but I was hoping to make some little dresses....

Ticia, sorry to hear you are feeling poorly. My daughter is going through the same thing only her boyfriend gives her grief all the time about being sick. Drives her and me nuts! She's due 11/30. Congrats on the new one coming and as you know, the 2nd and 3rd trimesters are better.

Melanie, congrats on your new one too!

I hardly had any morning sickness with 2 of my kids but the middle one made up for it-I was sick for 9 months! Somehow, we muddle through it though.

Hope you are feeling much better soon! I keep telling my dd that things will get better and I think some days she hangs onto that like a lifeline! LOL

Ticia - I can't add much more than what other's have written except to emphasis that it seems to be random with each pregnany and nausea is related to one's reaction to HCG - a hormone that only occurs in pregnancy. I was nauseated the whole time with my pregnancies. I was told it only happens with the first but this was not so. As a mat nurse we tell patients that one of the things that seems to help is to keep crackers at the bedside and drinking water before rising also helps. But the big practice that seems to help is the intake of ginger - ginger cooky, ginger capsules, ginger soda (tho probably not a lot of ginger in it but the effervesence seems to help),or chewing on a piece of ginger. This is an old practice that seems to show up in many many cultures so there must be some scientific basis for it.

FYI and others - the other old cultural practice is using cold cabbage leaves on engorged breasts post delivery - works like a damn and there are some papers written on how it is effective.

Good luck and remember "this too will pass"

My husband said when I was pregnant I glowed. I felt great and was never healthier than when expecting.

I was like Mary. I felt good. The best thing about being pregnant was I could eat as much as I wanted and the doctors complained I wasn't gaining much weight.
The only problem I had with being pregnant was the next 20 years. If it weren't for the babies I would have done it more often.
Don't get me wrong, I love my girls. I just feel, morally, enough is enough -- with everything and two was my limit.

I get a new grandbaby around Thanksgiving too! I can't wait, my other grandchildren are 7 and 10 so it's been too many years since I got to hold a wee little one. BIG SMILE

Ticia, I meant to tell you just what Sancin said--I had a lot of success with ginger. I bought a little baggy of cyrstallized ginger root, and I kept that baggy in my purse for about 5 months!! Cooking with fresh ginger root helped too. I found a number of good muffin recipes with fresh (not ground) ginger, and they were tastier than plain ginger root from my baggy, and it took away the nausea within about 30-45 sec. Feel better soon. ((Ticia))

I'll have to try the ginger. Annoyingly, it's gotten worse these last few weeks. So, at lunch today with my husband I had to make a quick run to the bathroom, with him sitting there wishing he could do something.
Oh well, according to all the calculations, I should only have two weeks left of this.

Ticia

That is of course, if everything goes like it did with the boys.

Like Mary, everyone said I glowed when I was expecting. I felt great since this time I was SUPPOSED to have a belly.
My SIL isn't quite so lucky - poor thing, she's been sucking on those lollipops from Motherhood - says it's the only thing that helps. Towards the end she usually feels better (this is her 3rd, and last).
