Okay, so I went to the dealer today to inquire about the Pfaff 300 machine due out soon. Said it would be 3-6 weeks or more before it makes an appearance, but could be sooner.

Anyway, they showed me machines in the same price range -- a White 3300, Husk... Scan..#300 and a "Husky" Iris.

I know about the Husky #300 model since I was going to buy it in December and held off since I didn't want to finance. What's the story with the Husky Iris machine? She said they are identical, came out about 6 months apart, but the #300 is $50 more.

They also demo'ed the White 3300 machine and it looks great and simple to use. HOWEVER, after reading reviews on here as well as other sites, this sounds like a horrible machine!

Is it operator error, or is it truly a poor quality machine? I was going to buy it, but told her I wanted to wait till next week so I could have time to focus on everything involved, since this week is so hectic. Plus, it appears that I can buy the machine cheaper just about everywhere else. I know I've waited this long, so why rush now.

So, what gives here?? I've got the $$ to buy it and the software/converter required, but am being very careful.

Thanks for any input.
Peggy

The White 3300 is a great little machine not to be confused with the newer model White 4400 or the White sewing machines. The 3300 is actually the same machine as one of the Babylock models, the Brother stand alone models including the Disney and the Simplicity models. The machines in this group all take the same embroidery cards. One difference is that the White 3300 only comes with a taste of Disney card and does not have the Disney built in. It also comes with an alphabet card plus has several alphabets built in including many kiddy designs and a few florals. Designs can be enlarged, turned and mirror imaged. I am not into serious embroidery but I use it constantly to fill requests from my many grandkids. I make many monogrammed gifts with it also. It has sewn on very light knits and does a great job on towels too.
I paid $349 for my 3300 several years ago. It has never failed me in anything. I embroidered names in different fonts and colors on lined plastic coated canvas including doubled and tripled layers for my daughters outdoor pool furniture cushions that I made for her. This project turned out to be one of my greatest achievements even after sewing many years and for my 6 kids as they grew up.
The 3300 is a great workhorse and you will see by reviews of the Brother machines but if I was seriously into embroidery I would probably choose a new Brother machine that is coming out with a bigger embroidery field. People seem to like their Vikings and I have seen some of the beautiful work they do. I would stay clear of the White 4400. I saw several reviews where new owners had so many problems with the machine they returned it. I did see one positive review on it however. I don't know what the difference is between the 4400 and the 3300 but they are not the same machines.

Thanks, definitely was the 3300 machine. However, I was quoted $599 for the machine, a lot more than what you paid. I will go back into the shop next week and have a more serious discussion with them. I have a tone of questions, many of which are discussed on this forum, plus more. I'm a little concerned about the higher price too.

My DH just said to wait until the new machines come out, but I'm getting tired of waiting

My Viking dealer no longer carries the 3300 and has not carried it for some time. The do however carry the 4400. The price of the 3300 might have gone up since I purchased mine several yrs back. The Simplicity and Brother models that are the same basic machine are sold at on line dealers for less than $599 and some of the prices do include the software etc.
