Thought I would hop over here and ask you guys too A recent (?) Sewing with Nancy episode where a guest showed how to make a nine patch using only two pieces of material and sewing it in such a way that it was extremely quick and easy - it's the "in such a way" that i was sure I was going to remember, but alas, I guess the memory is shot I saw the episode last week while here in FL, it could be a very old show. I can't remember the woman's name or whether she started out with 2 -9" or 12" squares. It sure looked easy at the time! The only thing I do remember is that she sewed up the sides of the two squares and then marked off in 3" segments, sewed and i don't recall what she did next. I tried searching Sewing with Nancty TV shows but couldn't find it. Anyone else out there that saw it? |

Have you watched The Quilters News Network (http://www.quiltersnewsnetwork.com/ to see if the episode will be showing soon. I know that I was looking at it one night this week and there was one of Nancy's quilting shows playing. Sorry I didn't watch it as I have seen it in the past. There is one of her shows running as I am writing this post. They often repeat episodes so maybe you will see it there.

If it's the one I'm thinking of.....she started with 2 9" squares (tho I think it could be done any size as long as it is divisible by 3). place squares right sides together, sew down left and right side. Cut 3 inch wide strips so you end up with 3 strips. The 2 outside ones are sewn together and the middle one is free. Sew the middle pieces to the 2 outside pieces to you have 3 strips in each square. Place these right sides together, sew the 2 outside edges, cut in 3 inch width strips across the length (so you are getting 3" squares in the strip), sew the middle sections to the outside sections and you have 2 9 patch squares that are about 7 1/2 inches I think she said. Does that make sense......makes more if you can draw a picture but I dont' know how on the computer.

Lyn, I did not watch that show, but your instrucitons remind me of a pattern that I have to make two nine patch blocks at the same time. Will check tomorrow. I can make copies to send to those intersted.

They did this on Simply Quilts sometime in the end of April. Lyn did a very good job of explaining it.

I got lost trying to visualise what was going on half way through your explanation Lyn, I think I need to do it with the fabric in front of me...if you could send me your version Adva I'd be interested.

I agree it was easier to figure it out when you saw it. It's a very simple process actually but I'm a visual learner and would have trouble with following it all without at least having something in front of me to play with while I'm reading the instructions. I hope Adva can find her directions for those that need them. Summer, I think you are right! Now that I think about it I think it was on Simply Quilts I saw this technique Lyn

I'll be happy to, Jan. Email me your address. I just got up, and haven't checked yet, but I am 99% sure that I have it (I have 4 huge folders of patterns to look thru!) <email address removed for privacy> I got lost trying to visualise what was going on half way through your explanation Lyn, I think I need to do it with the fabric in front of me...if you could send me your version Adva I'd be interested. It's hard for me too, to visulatize from written instructions. Lyn, your instructions are very well written, but I can't be sure that they are the same as what i have. My instructions show how to make, at the same time, 2 nine-patch blocks that are mirror image, from 2 squares of fabric. It's was on 'Simply Quilts' with Billie Lauder, and I have downloaded it in 2001 (it's not online anymore, i checked). So ladies, let me know who wants a copy, and i'll be to send you one. Adva Price

Wow, you guys are great!! Lyn, I think you know exactly what I am talking about - but, being the visual learner that I am, I will have to dig out 2 - 9" sqares from my limited FL stash and try it. Thanks to all of you who responded, really appreciate it! Ro |

Lyn, Adva's directions are perfect - just what I was looking for! Tried it today and it worked great. The link I sent fromt he other site has similar directions but calls for different lengths of fabric. You explained it correctly - I just needed to see it , and Adva did that. Try it - quick and easy, of course this comes from a non quilter, who's teaching herself and nicking herself on the rotary cutter and has seams that aren't perfect, but that's not the pattern's fault! Anyway, grandkids seem to love anything you make for them Ro |
