I've never made drapes/curtains before :whacky: So I decided to make my drapes for my bedroom....I measured and measured, got that right, then I measured and measured the lining....sewed the lining to the fabric....no prob. at this point. But, after I hem'ed (on sewing machine) they arent hanging correctly....should i have hung them then pinned them up for hemming? :nervous: ..i know i have to take the hem out at this point  but how can i correct this prob....   :whacky: :nervous:

How are they hanging? Are they higher some place, pulling toward the center, twisting, Maybe your lining and your fabric aren't squared (together) correctly. If one or the other was off grain they might twist. If one or the other wasn't "straight" across to the other side...like the grain one side is an inch or two or even a fraction higher than the other, they might twist or pull...if they are pulling toward the inside it is probably the lining. if they are pulling to the outside, it might be the curtain fabric. Did you pull a thread or something to square them? I'm sorry to be hopping around...there are several factors that could effect the hang, including the fact that the hemline just might not be straight. Please elaborate on the problem.

Marti.....

Other than the draperies not hanging correctly because they weren't cut on the straight of grain (and I have seen some fabrics that weren't printed on the straight of grain which made them impossible to look right)......it could be the fabric needs drapery weights in the hem so that they will hang correctly. Drapery weights might be a quick fix...........?
