I have a terrible headache today and I can't recall today how to start a new topic so maybe someone can move my question to a new topic. The question is: Does anyone use a croquis as described in many places but currently in Threads page 52? Is it worth the effort to make one up?

I have one but not quite that accurate -- a more generic of my body shape. It's like the paper dolls I used to make clothes for as a child. I don't use it much though. I find I can visualize without it. That may just be practice from those paper dolls I played with for hours a child.

I've never tried it, and haven't read the article yet. But I just checked the Taunton/Threads website, and I found there's an 'online extra' that you can download. It has templates of a handful of croquis, and you can adjust them to be more like your own figure. I don't know, though...something tells me an honest friend may be more useful (and fun to have around) for fashion advise and planning than a bunch of scaled drawings.

"croquis" Ok I took art for many many years and had to look this up. I was reading it the way it is spelled (american thing to do huh?) But now that I have looked it up I know how to spell it..My art teacher pronounced it crow-kee??!!

Anyways I ma not sure how much input it would provide, but I have never used one for sewing...Only body studies.

Filing this away in the possible cornucopia of useless information right beside the knowledge that the dot over an i is called a "tittle".

We Canadians also say things the way they are spelled, but we learn the prounciations a little differently! Don't worry Steph. We always kill your Spanish 'h's' and 'j's'. I had a student in a class several years ago with the lovely name of Juanita. When I called roll first day I call 'Wuanita' and no one answered. Apparently she was call Janita? Had never heard the Spanish pronounciation yet her mother was Mexican - go figure.

If you look, you'll sometimes see this idea on some of the patterns (particularly Vogue). Well, I know what my family must be Egyptian somewhere way back because I'm built like the Great Pyramid....and when my two lovely daughters are with me we pretty make up 3 pyramids.
