When should we start posting our may projects??

I would like to nominate Beach bag/tote as the june theme...Or maybe just bags/purse/totes. I know there are several expierenced bag makes in here and they could help the rest of us non baggers along too??!!!

I'd love to joint the themed project, but I'm not good enough to try a bag/tote yet.

Any chance we can do one project for each sewing level? One new post a month for each project - with links to finished projects. For space reasons, I use filelodge.com - it's free, and they give LOTS of space for uploading photos, etc., and they provide multiple link codes so you can insert a pic or hyperlink to an album.

We could do three categories????

One for Beginners - who would appreciate the practice the most.

One for Intermediate - Clothing, Home Decor, less challenging items, but requires some expereince.

One for Experienced - Here would be the specialty items that take an aquired skill.

I found the perfect quilted fabric for me.. Has bright colors on both sides.. Frogs on 1 side and paisley on the other.. I'm gonna make me the prettiest tote bag you ever saw.. I'll bet you could even see it in the dark.. Should I get another medium for the straps or use self fabric ?? I am leaning toward the self fabric for straps.. Love that gaudy fabric ! ! !

 Stephi - You and I, we'll do this right? or at least, give it a try!

I plan to do mine this coming weekend. My other half is off to the races (r.c. cars) so I am home with no one to cook or clean for!

I'm thinking I'm going to do something different, some type of multi-use tote bag.

Good luck!

Ok - so is this idea for June? Tote bags/beach bags. Um, ok. I could definitely get into this....but do we post them on here when we're finished? Did May's projects get posted? You'll have to bear with as I am a newbie.....Let me know and I'll get busy starting on (yet another, hee hee) sewing project. I'm assuming since its still May (huh - yeah 31st, I know) I can still join up.Woohoo. Maybe I'll go to the beach for some "inspiration!"

Are there any directions around? I dont' want to have to buy a pattern if I dont' need to.

WELCOME!!!!!

This will only be my second themed project - but we are all having lots of fun every month!

I was thinking yesterday that we should create a thread every month with the month and year as the title so we know which thread is for which project. This seems to be the June thread - I think. lol

I am also a "newbie", just a few weeks here.

This place is the best! Everyone does fabulous work!

Yeah - if anyone has instructions or a pattern that you can get online (free is good!) that would be great. The only ones I have are for munchkin bags....

Hey Butterfly -thanks!! I love your flower btw. I have been sewing for awhile, but could use all the support I can get (that's NOT from my mom. :dave: )She great but has been sewing since very, very young - taught by a grandma tailor - and can't understand why everytime I sew on a ruffle or put in a sleeve I inevitable pick up a little extra material and have to redo it..... (I keep telling her it's cuz I prefer having a very close relationship with my seam ripper.)

Done! Here's my tote bag. I used it today when I went over to the fabric store and the lady that helped me get the lining fabric noticed I had it. The beads really make it! I'm working on a second one for my daughter, trying to put in a zipper at the top without using a pattern, what a challenge.

Now that I look at it I realize I didn't do a great job of alternating the squares, I thought I did it ok when it was hanging up on the project board, but I probably turned some of the pieces around when sewing up the strips.

Great tote bag! Green is my favorite color. :bg: You themed project sewists are so fast. I never did get a project done in May, and my June tote project is still in the "hmmm, how should I do this" phase. Again, great job

I am glad I am not the only one finished!! I didnt want to post my pic yet though because I wasnt sure where everyone else was.

My daughters dance school requires her to have a bag to keep her shoes, and a bottle of water in while they are having class, so I thought how perfect!! I actually sat down and did it yesterday after getting extremly frustrated with a family member, LOL! I used I think Simplicity pattern as a guide and modified it to be smaller. My D loves it she picked out the material and the ribbon to match. I will post when I get a pic and can post it. :dave:

Wow, everyone! I _thought_ I might take a week or two off and pick up the house that has just fallen apart during my recent sewing marathon.... You have me feeling inspired now! OK, I need to get through one last busy spell through Thursday, and then I will start a new project!

Here is my tote...I didn't use the fabric from the jacket I ripped up (my daughter said the fabric was ugly and hence that's why I didn't mind ripping it up  ) I used an old drapery sample that I found in my stash and then just strip pieced fabric scraps for the trim. I'm giving it to my SIL as she is getting into gardening and I'm trying to give some of volunteers in the garden to her.

I know I am late with this but it has taken some time . I made my tote bag for my environmentally friendly daughter out of all those darn carrier bags you get from supermarkets!http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e81/Janicehodge/IMG_2600.jpg

Thanks Craftster.org for the idea.

Yes, you wouldn't believe how many it takes!
You cut the bag up into loops about 1 1/2 " across and join them together to make a chain like I used to do with elastic bands to make a french skipping rope. The noise it makes when you knit with it is phenomenal. The bags on craftster are crocheted which makes a better texture I think but I am a knitter so there we are. I knitted it in 2 halves and crocheted them together (I can manged that). It is basically knitted on tent poles.
