I am in desperate need of a very hard to find zipper apparently. I need a 32" metal or coil separating zipper , but the catch is I need it in a hard to find kind of brown. I have searched high and low for this, and all I've managed to find, even online is a place that will get it for me at the cost of nearly $20!! Ouch!! I can't afford that just to fix a jacket. So I got to thinking that maybe I could dye a white one to match the color of the jacket. But I don't know if that is even possible. Does anyone have any ideas??? Please help. (If the jacket was mine I wouldn't even care if I found a zipper that matched completely...but it's my boyfriend's and he is so picky he would flip out if I tried to use black or something!) So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I am running out of options and time! Thanks Anastasia Beaverhousen

It doesn't say where you live.... Do you have Joann's, Hancocks, Wally World, a local fabric/quilting/sewing shop ??? Hobby Lobby ??? www.sewtrue.com they have zippers of all colors of brown for about $2.00 and up. (plastic or metal....1 or 2 sided....closed or seperating.) Chrys

I know that RTD stuff (from Dharma Trading Co. etc) has blanks with zippers that are dyeable, so they must be out there. I looked at Dharma and couldn't find any individual zippers, unfortunately. Honeslty though, $20 isn't too much to fix "just a jacket" if it's a well-loved favorite. IMHO. I'm really unhelpful, I know. Hang in there! see the mundane life of a housewife.

If you can find the proper color in a major brand zipper of any size you might ask your local store if they can order it for you in the length/style you need...never hurts to ask. It is difficult for stores to keep everything "out there" in stock if it isn't in frequent demand. Too bad it is a jacket because you might be able to use the zipper by the inch but I don't think they have the ends you might need. I agree though that you might just have to fork over the 20 if that is all you can find.

I think I would let that picky boyfriend make the decision to either dump the jacket, use a black zipper or pay at least part of the $20. But first I would check with Dharma and Purrfections. Check the web sites and if there is a phone number call to see if they can help. But, by the time you get a zipper you can dye and the dye and put up with the mess, you might find just spending the 20 bucks would have been easier and cheaper. Dorothy |

I'd like to thank all of you who posted a reply to help me with this!! Ok so I live in So California and I've tried JoAnns, Hancocks, and every little fabric store within a 30 mile raddius from my house! But I have never heard of Dharma and Purrfections so I will look them up online. But I never even thought to ask the sales people if they could special order a longer zipper for me...duh! . So I hope one of these suggestions will find me closer to a solution to my zipper nightmare! Thanks Again, Monique Anastasia Beaverhousen
