I've almost finished the little capelet for my daughter's wedding outfit. I was pressing down the front edge. It was an awkward angle. Somehow I hit the temperature dial and when I picked up the iron an about an inch by two inch section -- center front is fried! I think I have enough fabric to cut another piece and redo that side of the front. Otherwise I have to go back to the fabric store and get more. Ruined my day. Dorothy |

I'm sorry. Why does it always happen on the important items?

My husband took me out for a couple Margaritas and nachos and I feel much better now. I cut out another front and took the burnt one off BEFORE the drinks so I guess I can fix it. But it is just so frustrating. Dorothy |

I'm sorry, Dorothy! Things like that always do seem to happen on the important items! Maybe this will be an easy fix and your frustration will melt away. |

After the Margaritas I was out cold on the couch until he woke me up to a big steak he'd grilled. He really is a gem -- but don't tell him I ever admitted that! I think this will be an easy fix -- the only issue may be along the hem. but I can take out a few stitches there so they new and the old come together again. But you know how it is when you almost finish something and are looking forward to the next project and then have to go back to the middle. Today shall be a better day!! Dorothy |

Your hubby deserves a big fat smoochy kiss for being such a sweetie. Hope the repair goes well, it is so frustrating when something like that happens.

For Mother's Day, my DH bought all new bedding for our room. New mattress pad, 600 thread count cotton sateen sheets (2 sets), cashmere soft blanket, and a new comforter, bedskirt and pillow shams at Bed, Bath & Beyond. We decided that it would be a combined Mother's Day & Father's Day gift. I just sink into bed at night now and it is so comfy. He also had earlier given me a book for my serger so I'm very lucky to have such a keeper. Happy Stitching (and sleeping) Marty It takes one moment to change a life.

Well, I finally went back to work and finished the cape. I hadn't sewed since I fried it. But I put a new front on it and it looks pretty good. Now I'm going to take a break from serious stuff and have a little fun this weekend. Here's the cape (I hope this doesn't come up huge) http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e212/DorothyLong/f4913ed4.jpg |

Marty For fun this weekend I am going to make my other daughter and her boy friend a housewarming gift. They finally got a certificate of occupancy for their new apartment -- they have been waiting since the middle of April. The gas won't be turned on until the middle of next week but they are really excited to move next week and will visit us for Memorial Day. I am going to make some coasters and a small cloth bowl to put them in. I found some fabric that kind of looks like spilled coffee. It's a brown and olive green tie-dye looking cotton print. And I thought I would cut the coasters in irregular shapes like spills. That's the fun before I get back to the wedding ensemble. Dorothy |

Pretty capelet Dorothy......when is the wedding? I hope the day is beautiful and not like the weather we have been having..............however, a capelet sure does help when there is a chill in the air.

This weekend is not going to be fun. A dear friend received the news on Mother's Day that her oldest son had died in the jungle while in Nepal of an aeortic aneurysm. He was only 48 and trained missionaries. He had just escorted one to her post when this happened. Her son has spent the last 25 years as a missionary in various posts from the Solomon Islands to Africa. He and his wife trained new missionaries and were responsible for Europe, the Middle East, SE Asia, plus North and Eastern Africa. Today is the memorial service as they have not been able to retrieve his remains. His wife and two children are stateside and were visiting my friend when this happened. When we visited her this week, her strong faith is what is keeping her going. This will be a hard day for all of us. Marty PS: The coasters sound cute and will make a great housewarming gift. It takes one moment to change a life.

Several decades ago we had a missionary who was in Mauai (spelling) with his wife and two kids. They were the first non-Catholic missionaries in their area and since our are not sent out by a denomination but by individual churches and groups of churches, his support was dependant solely on Faith. They had been there maybe a couple of years when his wife and children contracted Malaria. The wife died before they could get "extra" help from the states. The Catholic church was kind enough to give them a credit card to get them out of the country and to treatment so that the children were saved. It it is difficult life for those that are cut off like that. In your case, I'm sorry that she was unable to be with him when it happened but hope that she was able to be with friends. My thoughts and prayers are with her and their family. pam
