or does anyone else have trouble downloading designs from the internet. I have the Singer CE-200 and a brand new laptop running Windows XP. Most of the designs I have found have been in "zipped" folders, and when I click on the "download here" tab, the computer appears to be working, but when I click on the folder I believe I sent the design to, well, it isn't there. Can somebody talk me through this please? I also have Norton's Security on the laptop, and wonder if that is making a difference on what I can download or not. HELP!!!!!
Thanks, Joni :throw: :throw: :throw: :bang: :bang: :bang:

Joni do you have designated folders that you download your designs to? For instance, I have a folder labeled "Embroidery" and I download all of the zipped designs into that folder and go from there. I have a CE 100 and when I unzip the files to my machine software folders, I have them labeled according to what they are (dogs, cats, flowers, angels, etc.)

Using 'cataloging' software usually takes the guess work out of downloading from the web, since it goes directly to the catalog. I use BuzzXplore, theres BuzzTools, Embird and a couple of others. Software like BuzzX usually downloads, unzips, converts, resizes, catalogs and 3-D's your designs. It may also help you change colors. (if you're the type to do that.)

www.embird.com

both have free trials before you buy....

Yes Patsy, I have a folder "embroidery" within "My Documents". Some of the designs are in there, but others that I thought I had downloaded don't appear. I have looked in My Documents to see if I need to move the new item to "embroidery", but nothing is there. I think I must be doing something wrong with the download process.

Joni when I'm downloading, my computer automatically goes to my "Embroidery" folder and the I just tell it to save.

When I try to open up a folder in my software it won't show unless it is a certain format. You may be experiencing the same thing. Why not go ahead and extract the zipped files before you go to the next step? Then you should be able to find and view them later.

Pam the Futuras read all the formats for other machines, i.e., PCS, PES, HUS, SEW, XXX, etc. Futura will read and stitch all of them without converting. I don't understand why she's not able to see the downloaded zipped files in her embroidery folder if she's telling her computer to save them there.

What I was wondering is if the ZIP format was the reason she wasn't seeing it? Mine will too if I change the "viewer"...I dunno what they call that...sorry...dh is the small computer guru in the family. Once it is extracted I would expect her software to see it for sure.

I think maybe what she's seeing is the zipped format icon rather than the design itself when her designs are downloaded. You also have to be really sure how they are labeled when you download. The name that is under the design is not necessarily how it downloads in a Zip file.

Uuummm...I know this is probably a really stupid question but...do you ladies have WinZip to unzip the files first? That's what I do before I try to export them over to my Futura, and I don't seem to have as much of a problem when I do that. :nervous:

Just a thought - have you tried disabling Norton to see if it's blocking the downloads? I'm sure you've already tried that but just wanted to mention it in case you hadn't.

The only way you can load a design into the Futura software is by unzipping it. It won't go in unzipped. She's not downloading into the software, she said she is just downloading them into a file on her computer that is dedicated to her Futura. Norton was gone from my computer a very long time before I got my Futura. That is the worst software on the market.
