I just bought 11 vintage calendar towels at an estate sale. I remembered seeing an episode of Simply Quilts where a lady made quilts with them, but I can't remember her name or find the episode #. Does anyone know who the lady is or any other source or book I might find for using the towels in a quilt?
Thanks!

Don't have any answer for you, but I'd be really very interested in this. I have a ton of old calendar towels; plus all kinds of linen "tea towels" from when I was younger & collected them. I do recall seeing someone who used these types of towels as a "wall paper". Couldn't find it online though.

Hope someone knows the show you are talking about!

Have you tried going to HGTV and doing a search on the Simply Quilts shows for "tea towels" or something like that?

I don't get to watch very often because it's on when I'm working, but I see it every now and then during a school vacation. If I don't make notes about an episode I'm interested in, I've done a search and found info that way. Maybe it will work for you. I think I saw something about that episode you're mentioning. It would be worth checking.

I searched HGTV yesterday and found nothing, but today I found the episode. There was only a mention of the woman who made the towel quilts and some brief photos. Not much information. It was listed under "trash quilts". Not even a picture of her finished quilt. :nc: Just a close up of part of it and pictures of a few towels.

Did the lady's name help you at all?

Not really. Her name is Jane Gootnick. Anyone ever heard of her? I searched google and couldn't come up with anything else, but I saw some pictures of towel quilts that a lady on the hgtv boards made. They were all wallhangings. All very pretty and they gave me some ideas. I had planned to make one large quilt with the towels, but now I think that wallhangings would be better.

I didn't find quilts from tea towels, but I did find handbags.

Those are so unique. I love seeing vintage things made into something new. I might make a tote with one of these towels. One is a red, white, and blue bicentenial print from 1976. Would be great for a summer/4th of July tote.
Thank you for the link.
