A long, long time ago I posted some info and questions about a houpplande I was making for a Madrigal Feast. At long last I have pictures. The pictures are quite large, so I thought I'd just put in a link to their location. Admin, if there's a problem with this, just take the post down and let me know. http://historicalfashion.com/article/projects/26 I encountered some problems and am redoing the shoulders. They came out way too wide because I neglected to take into account the width of the gusset at center back. Also, you may notice that the garment hikes up in back. That's what comes from sewing in a rush. The houpp is a full circle. Somehow I managed to make the lining 3/4 of a circle. In addition to fixing those obvious problems, I'm trying to come up with a way to stay the pleats so they don't have to be re-arranged every time the garment is put on. Any suggestions? |

Now those are great sleeves! I love the doublet peeeking out from beneath. I am a bit of a beginner at this so I can be no help with the pleating problem except to suggest a few stay stitches at the back of the pleat just down from the top. You can't tack them too far down as you would lose the movement of the garment.

Ah the tale of that doublet. You can see the velvet collar and the lovely pearly sleeves. What I didn't expect was that some of the body fabric would peek out too. The doublet body was a fitting garment made from an awesome froggy print. The collar is permenant, but the sleeves are pinned on. I have more of the velvet to make a real doublet later on, probably with insets of the tapestry bits I have left. |
