Hi all. I'm new and have been having quite a fab time checking out all the info you guys share. I saw at some point a really pretty baby in an almost as pretty skirt. Just wondering if the person that was giving out the pattern is still giving it - or if the baby has arrived yet.
Oh - and does anyone have suggestions for making a circle skirt with gores instead of strips? (like up and down strips instead of lengthwise strips? Boy do I hope that makes sense....) Thanks!

Unless you love headaches or are an expert at matching fabric points, I would not advise trying to make a circular skirt with vertical stripes... To me, that would be sheer torture.. And would take an awful lot of material with a lot of waste to it..Use a solid or an all-over print that does not need matching..

I'm still here for now unfortunately LOL! This baby has GOT TO COME OUT SOON!!!!!!!

Anyway, send me your email address via pm or post it here or on the other thread and I'll get it to you as soon as I can!

As for a skirt with gores, I had a pattern I bought from www.sewbaby.com, let's see if I can find it and link you to it.

I've made one in a solid color knit, it turned out really cute. I've thought about doing another with alternating fabrics for the gores :)

Here are some pics of the one I made

What a beautiful dress on a precious little angel! I love the fabric! Is it embroidered?

Thanks for attaching the pictures!

And the dress is super sute too! That is really greeat - I love that you posted the pics as I do much better visually. That fabric is so pretty - very ethereal.
I had thought you would already have had that baby! My email is <email address removed for privacy>. Oh, and I went to the fabric store yesterday and I think I'm in agreement with the "no lengthwise Patterns" comment - it seemed like a mountain I don't have the patience for. Thanks for the help again!

Heres one way to do it

Cut 16-20 panels that are 2" at the top, 11" long and 4" at the bottom. They look like a long triangle. Then, sew the sides together in a pattern until you get the fullness you want, add a waistband at the top and a coordinating piece for the hem. You can then adjust the lengths and widths of the panels for different sizes.

Another option would be to make the top 'tier' of the skirt 1 to 1.5 times the waist measurment and maybe 3 inches wide, now add your verticle fabric pieces. That way you have the full gathered skirt without the bulk at the waist. I've seen a lot on ebay that are vertical strips of fabric but then right at the waist there is a horizonal piece of fabric that the others attach too...
Maybe I didn't explain that well.... I know what I'm trying to say but now that I'm reading it.. If that doesn't make any sense to ya'll let me know and I'll think of a re-wording.

Trying to help :-/

Corie,
sounds good to me.. I am going to actually try this out. My baby (22M) has gotten into a skirt phase.. she has been invading her 4 yr old sisters shirts (4y wears size 6T.. waaay too big for the baby)

Good tips on this thread
