I'm thinking about having a "Freezing Party" (I need a snappier name for it, suggestions much appreciated). The idea would be similar to a Holiday Cookie Exchange, but people would bring food to freeze and eat later. They could either come early and assemble their food in my house, or they could bring it to the party ready to be taken home. For instance, if we had six participants, I could make up six lasagnas and put them in the fridge the day before, then bring them to the party, then they'd be taken to their respective homes. In return, I'd be bringing home one lasagna and five other things my friends made. The participants wouldn't *have* to make family entrees, but a rough equivalent (like perhaps family-sized serving of pesto sauce and freezer bag of Italian Wedding Soup, etc). Has anyone heard of this sort of thing? Any suggestions for making it fun? Kelly see the mundane life of a housewife.

Oh, Blackie, you always have the most awesome ideas!!!! I really wished you lived here in Kentucky! I would love to attend your freezer party. (and your sewing lessons). You seem like such a fun person. Maybe some wine and cheese and crackers to snack on as you cook and assemble the dishes. Or have everyone bring a plate of one type of dessert and have a dessert snacking party. I think it is a WONDERFUL idea!!!! I know I would love to have a bunch of yummy homemade meals "on tap" awaiting a quick warm up in my fridge/freezer. Have a wonderful time Jen |

What a great idea. I have read in the paper about paying $200 to go to a location where you can prepare 6 dinner menus (for four people) so you can take it home to freeze. All the food to prepare the meals is there ready for you.......this is usually done at a restaurant (where I first heard about it in PA, but people are starting to do it in their homes here in NY). But I love this idea! My son is single and lives out of state, so I thought it would be a great idea for him. But alas, he will be doomed to a life of PBJ...... A name..........hmmmmmmm.........sounds like you're so creative one will be rolling off your tongue before you know it........ Definitely some wine and crackers would be fun................. Ohhhhh I make a great pasta dish with spinach, artichoke hearts and mushrooms..........I want to come Patty

Geez, I wish I lived near you ladies too. How very supportive! I wrote a friend who does a Holiday Cookie Exchange and she wrote back with a lot of reasons why my idea would be too much trouble. I was thinking I'd tell people to bring: A cooler $5 to cover dinner (I'd have pizza, salad, drinks, snack) Six (or however many are participating) family-sized entree or equivalent ("equivalent" might be a gourmet frosting + batch of freezer jam + meatballs combo or something along those lines). The recipe(s) for the food they're bringing (optional) It might sound like a lot of trouble for some people, but I just know there are ladies out there who'd love to do it as much as I would. I'd have to know the number of people attending and circulate an allergies sheet. The idea with the $5 is that it would cover a big portion, but not all, of my hosting dinner costs. Patty22 - We have what you describe up here in WA, it's called dreamdinners. It costs a lot but they provide a lot of the ingredients. see the mundane life of a housewife.

I think if you have the "right" individuals attending.......it can turn into a great event! By "right" individuals - I mean they are as excited as you about this and you don't need to supervise their dish to share because they might be thinking along the lines of doctoring up a can of baked beans Nice idea about getting the recipes and notices about food allergies. Are they actually assembling the dinners at your home, or are they bringing them already made and frozen so that all one needs to do is bring their cooler, pop the other dinners in, put it in the car and then have a fun night out with the girls? (so, why am I thinking along the lines of playing?) Then, be sure to get the next friend to volunteer for the following month and rotate doing it at everyone's home. Hey, if you must play in the kitchen, everyone could take turns teaching a technique........ how to make beautiful garnishes, I don't know....marzipan...........making an ethnic dish............ you know what I mean............. Great idea about food technique tutorials! Are they actually assembling the dinners at your home, or are they bringing them already made and frozen so that all one needs to do is bring their cooler, pop the other dinners in, put it in the car and then have a fun night out with the girls? More like the second option. But if they want to assemble them at my house, they can. They just need to let me know ahead of time so I can make that easy for them. I have a very, very, very small kitchen, but know how to use it. see the mundane life of a housewife.

How about calling it Freezer Filling Party? Sounds great to me - I'd even go along with the doctored bean to give me some variety. Perhaps you should indicate serving sizes. A casserole for 2 wouldn't be much help for a family of 5, nor would a huge casserole be much help to me as I would have to refreeze some servings.

I thought to myself this morning that I really need to read your blog. After reading about "Bathtub", I called my youngest into the room to enjoy some of your creations and we both were laughing at the great knitted hats and pictures when my husband peeked through the front window wanting to know what was so funny (this was over the sound of the weed wacker he was using). What a fun read.....and you are definitely a creative woman! Patty
