Has anyone ever had some SPAM like text messages on their cell phones??? :nervous:

This morning I received a text message on my work cell - it originated from Denmark and wanted me to "call back" the Internet address as I had WON a Complete Vacation, etc. Yeah right! As if I was gonna do that!!!

When I reported this to our telecommunications group, I was informed that this is type of messaging is called SPIT (SPam on Internet Technology). What will they come up with next?

Oh, wow! I hope this doesn't happen to me -- I get charged 10 cents per text message I receive or send. I've been using my cell phone as my main phone line for a while, and used to get a lot of telemarketers. It has mostly stopped now, but every once in a while I get a call from a weird phone number in the middle of the day. :whacky:

I can honestly say I get nothing on my cell phone...not even calls...
My cell is usually off or the battery is dead. I have no use for a cell phone, my husband thought it was a good idea when he's gone on trips. Trouble is, I'm usually home and can use the home phone...when he's home and we're out, he's got HIS phone.
To me the cell phone is like the digital camera he gave me...useless....
(yes the batteries WERE dead on that too, till he charged it last night..) :bg:

I don't know if it would help or not, but someone sent me an email yesterday saying that you should register your cell phone # on the do not call list, as well as your home phone #.

My daughter has no land line and no mobile - so if we want to contact her it is by snail mail or e mail. She likes gadgets but has a hatred of mobile phone masks - phones are cool , masts are not. So when we needed to contact her regarding her upcoming nuptuals she gave her mobile phone awy....it was all by mail....*sigh*
Now she has gone to see a friend who is having a crisis in a part of the country hard to get to... and has borrowed my mobile.....enough to make me spit let alone anyone else...

You do have to add your cell phone numbers to the Do Not Call registry now because they have become part of the telemarketer's territory. It was a few months ago that I heard on the news that cell phone numbers were going to be sold to telemarketers. How great is that?

I keep the number to the Do Not Call registry on my bulletin board at home so when family calls and asks, I can rattle it off to them. Some don't have land lines, only cell phones and didn't realize they would be bothered and were shocked when they started getting calls.

It's only good for 5 years, so whether you use it for land lines or cell phones, you have to renew it. It's worth the time if you don't want those annoying calls.

If cellphones here will become as popular as in other parts of the world, we'll be in big trouble. I own a cell phone in Asia (travel there often and find it too expensive to use my home cell phone there). Everytime I turned on my cell, there're dozens of messages queued up. People there told me although most of the SPITs in Asia look genuine, they're from ID thefts. Hundreds of thousands of people there lose lifetime savings to ID thefts from spams and spits.

Bless the no call list here. I signed up all our landline and cell phone numbers the day it opened for business. However, I always wonder if nocall works against text messaging...
