Man, it has been a very long time but I was thinking that there was a lever with a round end that you moved to the right (?) on that machine that set the stitch width. Several machines of that vintage have dials. Most of them have widths from 0-5 you can also use the length regulator to spread the length of the stitch.

I have a Singer Touch & Sew 603 so maybe yours is close to the same as mine. Mine has a lever on the top front that goes from S to 5. This is the stitch length setting for the zigzag. S is a straight stitch and the settings to 5 are how open the zigszg is. The stitch length setting is the vertical lever on the front. Above "Fine" is reverse (the higher the lever the larger the stitches. Below are the numbers for the forward stitch lengths. You just need to pick the setting that you want. If your has a "nut" on the end, it can be locked so the stitches won't change. Mine has disappeared somewhere over the many years I have had my machine (since 1964) so it just doesn't lock the setting in place. Hope this helps. |
