So, I got a new pattern, it recommended gauze for the fabric, so thats what I bought. I read a few posts about sewing with this material, but could use some more help. I plan to NOT stretch it out as I lay out the pieces to cut - as I prewashed/shrunk the gauze, it should keep the crinkle nice if I don't stretch it out - yes? I don't want it to crinkle up more in the gentle cycle after construction. It's 100% cotton, and not very stretchy, just stretched as far as uncrinkling goes. Should I use a kniw needle for this fabric or the lightweight? Will my new creative feet satin edge foot help me with this fabric? After reading the posts - I am worried about the foot flatening the fabric as I sew!!! It's a Sew Easy pattern - I expected simple - lol!!!!! I think you might be over thinking this one. I'd prewash and throw it in the drier. Get it out as soon as it is dry. Unless it shrunk up and crinkled too much more, don't press it. I don't think the edge foot will help much unless you are doing something where you want to have satin stitching on it. It shouldn't flatten as you sew it if you don't pull it tight as you work. Let it feed. You could kind of hold the crinkles in place with your fingers if you have too. Use a walking foot if you have one. Finish your seams by either serging or narrow French seams for most things -- dress, top, pants. What are you making and what weight is the gauze? Dorothy |

I don't have a walking foot - so I may get one. I am making pants and a shirt Sew Easy No. 4773, Butterick, http://store.sewingtoday.com/cgi-bin/butterick/shop.cgi?s.item.B4773=x&TI=10010&page=2 I washed and dried it. Seems to have shunk only a little, and is not "bundled up" I plan to use french seams, or flat felled seams, depending on where in the garment. Weight of the gauze - I have no idea! I better check my bolt, lol. It is fairly sheer, lightweight. You Lord, give perfect peace to those who keep their purpose firm, and place their trust in you. Isaiah 26:3, AV

That looks like it will be nice and cool for summer. I don't think you will have any problem. And don't jump up and buy a walking foot for that. But, eventually, when you have a few bucks extra (what do they cost anyway?) you might want to pick one up. I know my built in one sure comes in handy. Go ahead and try that garment. You might want to use a press cloth just to keep from flattening the fabric near the seams when you press them. I've used several types of crinkly fabric and never had a problem except one dress when I ironed the fabric before I laid it out so I had to iron the dress every time before I wore it. But I iron everything anyway so it was no big deal but I suggest you just hit gauze with steam to get out any creases. Dorothy |

Well, I didn't go out and buy the walking foot. I just went out and finally bought a new machine! I bought a machine that was over what I needed, but not the $800 one I wanted. This one will do more than my White Classic - so that is great! You Lord, give perfect peace to those who keep their purpose firm, and place their trust in you. Isaiah 26:3, AV
