That's very cute. I love all the pockets and the bright colors.
When you add the snaps, do you put an interfacing behind it? I'm working on a denim tote and I wondered if the snap would eventually fall out if I don't add some thickness. :nc: The lining fabric is a thinner cotton and I don't want the snaps to show on the outside of the bag.

That is so cool - I wsa wondering how to do pockets inside a bag - now I have an idea from your pictures! Have you ever put zipped pockets in them?

Love the bag, especially your choice of trim. Why do you put your label on the bottom? How about the pocket so when her friends ask her to see her new piece of "flare" she can point to your label without dumping out the entire contents  (hey, designers put their name all over their fabric in addition to adding a little metal ornament off the handle or by the closure).

I'd love to make something like that for 7 yr old niece! You always make such cool things. Did you use a pattern or make up your own design?
Are your labels stick on or did you sew them on?

Do you put something in the bottom of the bag to make it look so crisp?

Great bag-love it but then I used the same lining fabric for a skirt for my dgd along with other polka dot colors attached to a tshirt. Love the colors!

SheriO a great thing to use in the bottom of a purse to shape it is plastic canvas. You can purchase it by the sheet at any craft store (Michael's, Hobby Lobby, etc.)

HI everyone!! thanks for all of your compliments! Here are some answers to your questions..

I use a fusible interfacing that I got on e-bay. If you need to know the seller and product, e-mail me and I'll send it to you.

I use covered book board for the bottom of my purses. Plastic canvas is popular, but not stiff enough to creat that "crisp" look.

I have changed the placement of my label to the side, along with embroidering my business name onto the center pocket. I'll include a photo.

Thanks for all of your questions and comments. Frankly, I can't keep up with the orders, so it really wouldn't be a bad thing if the owner couldn't find my label at this point!

No where near as professional as yours and a bit saggy so I'll try some of the stiffening suggestions next time.

Excellent job for both of you!! I just finished quilting a tote, now I have to finish off the top and add the handles and my pic will be up! But now that I've seen the way you do your pockets I wish I could change mine, but next time!

Ok so how exactly would you put the plastic canvas or covered book board in there? Do you just sndwich it between layers or do you tack it to one of the layers.

Some times I hand tack the plastic canvas down through the holes.

Cute purses ladies. Every now and then I get on a purse making binge and do several and then I don't do one for quite a while.

Sheri I leave an opening in the bottom seam of the lining and insert the plastic canvas through that opening and hand stitch through the outside bottom seam through the holes in the plastic canvas in the middle of each end and in the middle itself to keep it stable and from turning in the bottom of the purse. I have a couple that are made of all washable materials and I just throw them in the washer and dryer. If you have cardboard as the bottom and you try to wash it, it will disintegrate.

Just an odd button I had in my box Dorothy - left over from a coat.
I used the Jordy square bottomed bag method on Craftster
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=32204.0
as you pull the whole thing through a hole in the lining it won't really take a hard base.

The plastic canvas is inserted for the bottom through an opening in the bottom seam of the lining after the bag has been turned.

Looks great to me! I can't say that my first bag looked that good.
I have to admit that I've been sewing since I cut up my brothers yellow searsucker bedspread to make a new dress for my class picture and my mom refused to buy me any more dresses. She bought my fabric, but no go on the dresses. Sooooooo.....that was in 8th grade in hmmmm....1971. Safe to say it's been around 35 years. I should post some of my earlier stuff for kicks and grins! If only she knew I was in my glory with all of that fabric!

Thanks for all of the compliments..you guys also inspire me, so keep up the good work!

I love going to garage sales and thrift stores and finding cool old buttons and toggles and stuff of that sort. My d is gonna hate me when she gets older.

Stephi --
Don't overlook antique shops.
There was one near here that had TONS of buttons (she sewed). They usually cost less than new ones.
It is closed now and most places are hit or miss and sometimes more expensive than necessary but there are a lot of beautiful old buttons out there.
