Hi everyone, I am a newbie to this forum and a newbie to machine embroidary. I have been sewing all my life and have a business at home. I have a request. Does anyone know of a good book that can help me learn digitizing. My machine is a Singer Futura Ce 200 and I just love it. It has the auto punch, but I know nothing of digitizing. Rose ( txnana ) |

Rose welcome to Sew-Whats-New. I have the Futura CE 100 and auto punch and have only digitized a couple of things with it. Apparently Auto Punch is not that sophisticated a digitizing system and quite a few others that I've read their posts have gone to a more upgraded, sophisticated digitizing system. If you want to digitize designs as part of your business, I would suggest that you look at Embird. Their software can be downloaded directly into your computer and I understand from others that Embird has really good technical assistance at all time. I think the website is www.embird.com Patsy Patsy

Most of 'us' with embroidery machines have the digitizers that COME with the machine. (if we can afford it...) Embird and Generations are made up of 'modules'. If you want to do more than one thing, ie Alphabets/Fonts, it will cost you for each module. Wilcom (used in most high end digitizing programs is one price.) Be prepared to pay $1500 + for a GOOD, usable digitizing program. I myself have Janome Digi Pro...(came with my 11000, upgraded with Photo stitch by Wilcom/Stitchitize...my 10000 used Ditgitizer only) www.secretsof.com will tell you about Embird www.embroideryonline.com will tell you about Generations www.wilcom.com.au will tell you about Wilcom usually the only books that tell you about digitizing are the workbooks that come WITH the digitizer programs themselves. Machine dealers usually have classes on digitizing... Chrys

I have a friend who has a digitizing program from Singer. Both my Artista software and his were 2000 but he has been very please with his, as I have. There are pros and cons to all software, some things are a little easier, others are a little harder, but there are some excellent packages out there. If you decide to break over and buy an expensive program, 1500-2000 or MORE I would strongly recommend that you look at everything you can get your hands on. That is a large investment for most people and there are some really good programs out there. Make sure that it is compatable with your format or that you have a way to convert to your format if it is not. I don't know where most companies are in their cycle but Bernina will release a new version in the fall. Since there are major changes about to come about in Windows as well as the computer systems, I would expect that several may be upgrading soon. You might also want to ask about upcoming upgrades/ upgrade prices, etc. It might end up costing a whole lot more if you buy at the end of a software cycle (not sure). You'll also want to be sure and get the latest version as that is usually the only one supported (at least long range) by the company.

Paroper ty for the info. One good thing about the futura ce200 is that it takes all formats and converts itself. Rose |

txnana, I have the CE100 with Autopunch. I spent most of the winter playing with it and learned quite a lot. I now believe I know more about it than the local Singer dealer. If you need any help figuring it out I will be more than happy to share my experience (for a cost ). Here is the cost, you must share the knowledge you gain from your own experience with some other poor fool who got bit by the machine embroidery bug . The number one most important thing I have learned about Autopunch is you need to start with a good clean wmf image. Anything less will just cause major frustrations. Gina

Pudge, I love your cost.. That is a cost I am willing to pay any time, anywhere.. That is the price I charge a lot of times for a sewing fee.. Except I say fill a need for someone who can use help. Years ago, someone did a good samaritan act for us, and it was a doozie.. The price she required was to pass it on... I have tried to live by that for all the years since.. Keep up the good work.. I love the "pay it forward" idea....I've often told someone to do that too when I've done something for them and they want to pay for it or whatever. Just pay it forward.

I haven't yet found(or looked for) software that scans as a wmf. I mostly work with stuff that is already on my computer. I have a variety of print shop type programs and they all have some wmf images. I also picked up some click art disks from the thrift store that were full of wmf.

I have a variety of print shop type programs and they all have some wmf images. I also picked up some click art disks from the thrift store that were full of wmf. From what I understand, wmf is a Windows Media File extension. While most graphics programs rely on using .jpg file formats, embroidery programs are better able to use .wmf graphics for digitizing. I use PaintShopPro 7 as my graphics program, which will save any of my graphics as a .wmf file. Start out with very simple graphics with very few colors at first to get the hang of the Auto Punch program and how well it will convert your images. It just takes time and practice, which I have learned myself here recently! Cookie
