I sew, (machine) embroider, quilt, crochet, garden, read (I own about 3000 or more books). I'm a weboholic, for 21 yrs now. I like to work around the house. Oh yeah...I'm also a non conformist...can you tell ??? Chrys

Debbie, you're actually the closest to me so far. After my divorce I lived in Sharon, PA for a year, close to my father. My Dad's house was on Lincoln Avenue and if you stepped out his front door, and stood in the center of the street - you were in both PA and OH at the same time! What I miss the most from that area is the drive through Milk Barn!!!! Gotta love it when you can drive through for Milk and Beer at the same time, lol!

Hy Dexter! nice to see you are still sneaking around here - hope college isn't wearing you down. Naomi - I read your list of favourite food and I didn't recognise a single thing - are you sure you are eating food? What the heck is a lube wing? What kind of animal is a lube that it HAS wings? Bird? Insect? Dinosaur? There are times when I feel so alien... love and kisses, Jan

I know Quaker Steak and Lube from living in Sharon, PA for a year. I loved that place! I can remember every night the bikes would start to show up at dusk - and by the end of the night, they were lined up around the block!

Hy Dexter! nice to see you are still sneaking around here - hope college isn't wearing you down. College has been going very well lately, actually. Finals week is this upcoming week and I'm just studying up a bit for those. Been working a lot lately, too, which has also been going well. I'll probably always be sneaking around these forums. I haven't been able to do many creative projects this year at all, which has been a bit disappointing, but I still have aspirations to get myself back into cosplaying. |

Okay, someone in Pa got the bright idea to convert a old time Quaker State ( Quakers settled in PA, hence the nickname) Oil Gas Station into a eatery!!! They still have the car lifts with shells of old cars on them , which you can sit under, race cars hanging from the ceilings, steering wheels on the inside of the bathroom stall doors, Motorcycles and TV's are also hanging around. They serve booze, steaks, burgers, chicken, ribs, salads and they are know for their many flavors ( 21 at last count) of wings. They even have one that you have to sign a release form BEFORE they will serve them to you!!!!! You can get Onion rings on a old car antenna, drinks are served with crazy bent straws in various colors. They bring you cherry licorice sticks with your bill and warm packets of towels to clean your face and hands. The first one was opened in Sharon Pa, about a 70 minute drive for us from Barberton. But they have since branched out to other Cities in Pa and Ohio. The closest to us in now 40 minutes North towards Cleveland. "Hog Heaven" is along the same lines as Quaker Steak and Lube, but their big seller are Southern Molasses Style Ribs and Baked Beans. Motorcyclist, also know as "Hog Riders" hold a special place in the heart of the Owner so he named it in Honor of them. The place is very family oriented and clean and they have the BEST RIBS IN THE WORLD!!!! They are located in New Philadelphia, Dover and Canton Ohio. Noble Roman's is a Pizza Chain out of Indiana that made a FANTASTIC Deep Dish Sicilian Pizza. Not many of the stores are around any more, when I go to visit Big Brother, he always tries to fit in a visit to one in the area for me. Hope this answered some of your questions. http://www.quakersteakandlube.com/ http://www.hogheaven-bbq.com/ http://www.nobleromans.com/nrimenu.html |

What fun to learn about everyone... Gayla...I'm glad to finally see Wichita Falls represented on the boards! My hubby is a native of Burkburnett and I lived in Wichita Falls twice (once at Sheppard AFB when I was about 12 then again from the time I was 17 until age 25). I met Curtis while we were both working at Sikes Senter Mall. We both graduated from Midwestern State! My father retired to Wichita Falls where about 6 or 7 of my stepmom's sisters still live. My father-in-law still lives in Burkburnett. Farthest he ever gets into the Falls is to go to the Wal-Mart out by the base. I come back to town about every other month. Laura...What city to you live in or are you in one of the rural areas? I was born in Terre Haute Indiana. My family has roots there back to at least the mid 1800s. My dad left when he joined the Air Force when he and mom divorced (when I was 6) and I left for good when I was 15. I went back last year when my grandmother died. Stopped off for a square sliced pizza and an Italian beef sandwich at Ambrosinis, let my daughter see a basement for the first time in her life and drove my husband out to look at covered bridges. We spent the better part of an afternoon at Bridgeton and were sick when we heard about the arson there later in the year. And, as a Hoosier (by birth anyway) I downed plenty of some Noble Romans Pizza. I can't believe they're still around! I guess it's just as good today as it was back then. Shelly Moon

Luck with the finals Dexter - maybe you will get back to the cosplay cossies someday - it may take a time you never know. I haven't made anymore tudor costumes for some time but I did manage a french hood last year. I need some more fancy dress parties to go to so I can let my imagination go wild. Laura - I always knew you were a secret bloodsucker! I had a friend who used to work in the Blood Products Lab, Dagger Lane, (town) Herts. love and kisses, Jan

Okay Kaitlin and Dexter...no sense bragging...middle age will slam you against the wall one day too! Now, now, middle age couldn't be that bad of a thing. I don't think it will slam us against the wall. If anything, middle age life will be much more relaxing and serene. It's the years working and progressing towards that moment that are seemingly more difficult. I'm looking forward to middle age, and oddly enough, even older age. However, I am enjoying the moment I'm currently in. *points finger and giggles* You didn't have ipods or the wondrous Wii when you were our age! hahaha |

Catches you unawares Dexter, you feel the same inside but your body betrays you and grows crumbly. Back when I were a lass we had computer lessons at school (only for the top maths people) and we sent off our programs to the county computer on little punch cards (in my case Canterbury in Kent) and got them back the next week. ah Fortran! The thought of a computer in every home was riduculous - nobody could imagine what we would use them for! Now I am bereft it the net goes down.. The calculators you get from woolworths have more computing power in them these days than the computer on Apollo13. Ah me. Personally, I love being me, I just forget how old I am - that is the glory of the net - we are all just people - not faces/ages that we automatically prejudge by some programmed criteria. love and kisses, Jan

Middle age? Is turning 44 next month coming into my middle ages I'm feeling it is! I've started menopause early, my mind feels like it is slipping some days, and it seems just a few years ago I could go for hours doing home remodeling work before my body got tired! Now I have body aches! And my body is changing, reminds me of a joke I seen once about waking up & someone stealing my body parts! I know it's not just me, as several of my 40's girl friends are feeling similiar lately - maybe we're just going through the 40's blahs ...

Yes Shelly I am in one of the rural areas, about an hour southeast of Terre Haute. We have 12 acres, 2 ponds, and if youngest dd has it her way there will be horses, goats, and more pets after we get done with the house! I understand how you feel about coming back to Indiana, though. I feel similar when I go back to Kansas, I love to go back to my old haunts, foods, familiar places, etc. Really though I do like this part of Indiana, it is beautiful out my windows, I love the hills & trees I see in my backyard with my pond, sitting in my gazebo listening to my wind chimes. And it hasn't gotten as hot here as when I lived in Kansas or Florida I'll have to check out the Pizza! LauraM

MSN My Space is a "home page". Through MSN IM you can click and connect to anyone's My Space that you have on your IM list. On you page, you can blog (that is how I keep in touch with my distant family), post photo albums to share, etc. My page plays a song, whatever I have it set to, when the home page loads. I used to have my sister singing - and everyone that visited could hear my sister sing! It can do so much more than I would ever get around to doing. My brother is pretty much a My Space freak, and got the entire family up and running. I am at least an hour from Mom, Dad, and Sisters. My brother is in Hawaii, so I get to see all his neat photos and videos of my nieces and SIL - without leaving home. It also lets you snag photos. So all the photos of my new nephew I can snag and print here at home to save. There's a ton more! You Lord, give perfect peace to those who keep their purpose firm, and place their trust in you. She stayed with a Host family. I don't remember the name. They had 2 children. A boy & a girl. The boy was the same age as her younger sister & had a lot of the same traits/interests so she felt at home. She liked most of her stay except tje food. She is a very picky eater I sent her a survival box with some of her favorite cereals & snacks. She did like the fact that she lost weight. She didn't eat a lot & said she walked more than she ever has before. I think she taught 7/8 yr olds. She said teaching was different there. Here we have curriculums that the teachers must get through each yr. She said it was much more layed back there but the kids seemed to learn/know just as much. She set up a web site (required from the school) when she got back but it has been deleted from my computer. If I find it I wiil send it

Jeanette I would love to buy your house in Nova Scotia, but I need to have complete health care and you are moving!! Also I have too much stuff to move too far. How far are you away from the ocean where those lobsters live in? Personally, I prefer Pacific salmon to Atlantic but I could live with Atlantic . Enjoy Ontario - I will be there in a few weeks in Toronto to become a first time grandparent and help my daughter move to Waterloo! *~*~*~* Nancy*~*~*~* " I try to take one day at a time - but sometimes several days attack me at once."

Not far from the lobsters, about a 15 minute drive to the "Lobster pound" they bring in 20 000lbs a day in season!! Pacific salmon is tough to find here, lots of atlantic though, Sometimes I'll order a whole one and cook it in the dishwasher Someone will buy the house eventually, I'm just happy b/c our money transfer from the US came through yesterday (old 401k from the 2002 move) so now we have $$ for our downpayment on the new house! Just checked back here, take your salmon, put what ever flavourings you like INSIDE the fish, lemon, butter etc, triple wrap it in foil with each layer completely separate, put it on the the top rack of your dishwasher and run it on the hottest cycle you have with the heated dry (don't use sanitize -too hot- and air dry is not hot enough) if your fish is on the larger size you may have to run it twice It will be yummy and moist and your friends eyes will pop out when you tell them how you cooked it Jeanette

Rachelle - I have a serious amount of long lost cousins in Christchurch NZ! At least I think that is where they are - I lost 'em you see. My Mum's sisters and Mum emigrated to NZ 50 odd years ago - we used to get exotic hardwood rulers and maori dictionaries for Christmas presents and photos of strange relatives eating their Christmas dinner in the garden....
love and kisses, Jan

Jeanette -- I'm giving that one to my husband to try. That way if we mess up and make a mess in the dishwasher I can blame him. It looks like a good way to cook on a hot day. Dorothy |
