Ok, so before I start to design my own program for calculating all the number of pieces for each color, for the number of blocks, for the number of finished squares, for the size of the quilt, etc. . . . .

Is there any good inexpensive or free software out there already?

Thought I better ask before I spend the time designing the program!

Thanks!

I had Electric Quilt when it first came out, however, I never upgraded in the system and found it more functional for me to just go through Barbara Brackman's pattern dictionary on my own (I have a copy of the old loose-leaf when she was producing the book before a company took it over).

Why don't you experiment and have some fun before you get yourself heavily invested in "extras" that you might not use as frequently as you think.

This sewing adventure gets mighty $$$$........ and you might as well prioritize your purchases......

Oh my God, it sounds like I'm telling you that you can not sample all the candy in the Candy Store. Sorry.....

Oh wait, you said you were looking for "free" programs.........

Wise choice, but I'm not sure if there is anything out there. How about joining a guild and see if the members network and "share" or if the guild has their own loaning library....

Hi...there is a fairly new product out called Quilter's FabriCalc. It does all the math for you. I was able to enlarge a 39 1/2" square quilt to a king size quilt in about 15 mins. It is available at most fabric and/or quilt shops and also online. Just enter it in your search engine. I paid $39.95 for mine and it is one of the best investment I ever made.
If I had known that grandchildren were so much fun, I would have had them first!!

This one is pretty good . . . for my needs right now. Of course, I spent lunchtime today making a spreadsheet! I like the Quilt Calculator better!

I promise not to reply to posts anymore until my 5th cup of coffee

I was visualizing you designing your quilt, therefore using EQ,and calculating blocks needed, not necessarily contemplating the amount of fabric needed. Sorry.....

Quilt Calculator is handy! I must say you are really getting into the sewing and quilting. I can't wait to see what you create.

Off to the coffee maker :coffee:

I run for my coffee too, lol.

I put a lot of thought into everything.

I did all my calculations on my own, and then checked them online.

I'm crazy! But at least I can admit it

I'm really into designing - the fabric end of it really doesn't bother me. I buy on sale, I have an eye for color, and I will not be buying 11 - 15 yards of fabric for a quilt top until I PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE.

I KNOW I will be back for help from all of you - as you are all so wonderful and helpful!

No idea if this rusty sewer would have been able to accomplish what I have so far in 4 weeks without all of you . . . .

Every one of you is a doll!

My hubby got me the quilt calculator this past weekend. I haven't had the chance to use it yet, but I have been reading the instructions that come with it. It looks farily easy to use and very complete.
