I have an idea for pillow case dresses I would like to share. I found a couple of old pillow cases in great condition at a thrift store. They are so pretty and had flowers embroidered along the edge. Anyway, I bought them thinking about doing a dress for each of my girls. I knew I wanted something different that the traditional pillow case dress. Well 3 months later I still hadn't touched them. I decided I wanted to make pretty little nightowns for hot summer nights. My girls are aged 4 and 6 to give you an idea of their size. On the top of the pillow case (the closed end) I cut off around 2-3 inches in one strip and set it aside to make the straps. Then I hemmed the newly opened end. Then I shirred the top 12 inches or so of the pillow case. I made simple straps out of the bit that was salvaged and sewed them in place. These nighties turned out so pretty. They fall at about mid calf. My DDs have started wearing them as sundresses. Liz |

Liz~ Thats why they're called pillowcase dresses - my mom says her and her nana (so 5 generations back...when they didn't waste ANYTHING!) used to take old worn down pillow cases and make them into dresses - the thrift store bargain is perfect!!! I also like the nightie idea for summer - very cool!! (get it....I know, I'm really not that funny.) |
