Thirteen years ago I belonged to an online quilting group called GEnie....GE was the service provider ...it was one of the first internet quilting groups. Besides swaps one member took us through a mystery quilt.

The crazy part of the project was that I allowed three of my kids to pick out fabric and then they would have their own quilt (my oldest was getting a t-shirt quilt from the races he ran in so he wasn't part of this madness). The t-shirt quilt got finished years ago, but the mystery quilts remained as tops for thirteen years. The fabrics they picked out ( they were 6, 12 and 14 years old at the time) really represented their personalities, even today.

I never felt bad about not finishing up these quilts because all my children had all received quilts along the way. But now, I'm on a mission where I don't want to buy any more fabric until I've finished what I started. I've finished 13 quilts so far this year, although five were baby quilts, but 8 were unfishied projects.

I'm sure my daughter will get a good chuckle out of this when she gets it in the mail....I only wish that it was me getting to hug her instead of the quilt.

You have some fantastic work there Patty - well done. I love your birds in the air quilt - you seem to me to have mastered the art of getting all those little triangles to behave themselves and line up nicely.

Thank you Jan. The Birds in the Air quilt was a block exchange from the same Genie group that ran the mystery quilt series. I believe I have around six different signature block quilts from that group and in particular a lovely blue/white lady of the lake quilt with indigo fabrics/japanese/liberty of london. So, thank you for the compliment, but it deserves to go to the wonderful women who participated in the friendship block exchange (the Basket quilt was another from that exchange group).

thanks Gena...

The Princess Feather quilt was originally suppose to be a four block quilt. The Princess Feather was suppose to be repeated into four blocks and I started this in 1993. The problem was I went started Baltimore Album blocks and got bored with this and put it away. This past March I decided to just use the one block that I had finished as a Medallion style quilt and added the half-square triangles. There was a really nice icky green vine print (an old Jinny Beyer fabric - but an oxymoron ---icky yet nice?) that looks wonderful with it on the border.

I have three tops waiting to get quilted so I will be adding more quilts soon.

I did finish up 2 quilts I started in the early 90's this week. It feels good to get them out of the way. I have 4 tops to get quilted now and then I get to start a new quilt project. I made a promise to my self not to start a new quilt project until I am caught up on my ufo's. I'm working hard so I can start a new project! Have a great day. Gena

I've got to retire, or I'll never be able to get my first one done! You ladies are amazing!

Retire?! That always makes me laugh. My mom once told me not to wait until I retired to do my sewing.....................I wouldn't be able to see to thread the needle. She's so right. I still have a few years to go before I "retire" but I can't hit the needle eye now. She's my best buddy. I call her several times a day. She lives about 7 hours from me. My daughter lives about 100 miles from me and one of my ufo's will go to her and one to her son. Happy sewing. Gena

Really cool quilts you have there. Just love your color combinations. I'm always facinated when I see what others have done and I wonder why I never thought of using the same ones.

Have no idea when I'll retire either, but if I waited until then to do my quilting, I'd never have enough time do make all I want. Even making as many as I can now I still know I'll never live long enough to use all the patterns and fabrics out there I keep seeing.

Retired? Don't count on having any more time when you retire, ladies! I have come to the conclusion that time is made and doesn't occur. Perhaps it is only a state of mine - tho the body does come into it.

Patsy, I too like your quilts very much. I also like the way you have presented them. Congratulations. I can only imagine the feeling of completion you must have.
